William,

In my old version of TS every time I started a new time record it would have my hourly charge (I’m a freelancer) inserted in the “Charge” column. I figured that out years ago with TS but now that I’ve lost all my prefs and data from the earlier version in the transfer to the AppStore version, I can’t remember how to set that up to have the hourly charge in the Charge column.

You could move your old preference file to the App Store TimeSlice preference location; that would preserve all your preferences.  Or, you could start your old TimeSlice, take a screenshot of the preferences, and apply the same to the App Store TimeSlice.  I’m not real sure how to set what you’re asking.  Possibly in the "Display preferences -> Display time in increments of 60 minutes” might do it.

As for the directions on the Reveal Database file, I tried to follow all those steps when I first upgraded to the AppStore volume but nothing worked. I’m must have done something wrong.

Which step did not work for you?

Just by chance: Is it possible for time records to be “hidden”? A few weeks ago, with my previous version, for some reason I opened TS and there were no records showing. I messed around and finally got them to appear. Is there any condition under which the records could be there but just not be showing?

Yes: Filters.  Open the Help, and about 1/2 way down on the left is the word Filters.  Click on it.

Thanks,
Bill

William,

There are also some free file finding apps such as the one below that will locate the files you want.

Thanks Bill — good idea on a screenshot of the old preferences.

I have no idea where I goofed up following the multiple steps of the transfer of files to the new “Container” home for the AppStore version. But I think those files likely don’t exist any more.

I’ll check the HELP on “Filters” and see what I can discover.

Thanks for your help,

William K.

William,

The TimeSlice4.plist file is your preference file, not your data file.  Search for “TimeSlice.sqlite” to locate your data file.

The filters do as the name implies: filters your data. So if you have a filter that does, for example, only list time records that have a start date of July 4, 2001, then any window that has the filter applied to it will only show time records that have a start date of July 4, 2001 and no others.

Thanks Bill — I have Easy Find and used it already to find the TimeSlice4.plist  — but when I moved it to the new AppStore version’s Container location no records appeared in the new TS version. (I renamed it as the instructions said.)

I realize this is probably something I’m doing wrong, not being the most tech savvy guy. I may go back and try everything again and see if I can have better luck.

There is nothing in the “Filters” prefs or instructions that shed any light. The “Filters” window is completely blank in the new app — nothing there.

Thanks for your efforts,

William
