So, new shoes, new start again with the running.  Partly as the PT coaches it (and can encourage me), but partly because I've connected to how much I miss it.  For processing, feeling a sense of achievement, and just being out on the roads.  I heard Vassos Alexander talking about his early morning Sunday run on Chris Evans' Breakfast Show the other morning, and it really struck a chord.  Not interested in races (yet), but getting those miles in my legs.

Complete chance in buying the runners, but sometimes things just work out that way.

Anyway, I have mapped out a few routes, and marked a very short 1.1k circuit.  Bearing in mind that I haven't run in a very long time, I set out quite apprehensively. It went fine! Ran all the way, and then did it again! Thought that should be it, just to assess the knee, the back etc. All good this morning!  I'm really pleased, and am back on the Runnerbeans path.

Well done Jules!

Having redone a quick version of the C25K programme over the summer I was back up to 30 mins 3 times a week, but then I had to go back to work and have only managed 3 runs since the beginning of September! Longish days at work - I leave home around 7.50 and get back around 6 - and busy-ish weekends, and I don't push myself to go out even thought really I know I'd feel better for it. Now both the girls are off at uni I should really make the effort to go out when I get back from work, even though it would mean eating rather late. Oh we'll, having been out every night last week I have only 1 night out this week, and that's a social evening, so perhaps tomorrow...haven't managed to restart the Pilates either.

I'm delighted to hear you've got back to runnng Jules. I'm sure there will be some great routes for you to explore!

It's the freedom and head space it gives you that I love, although this year I have unfortunately sublimated that feeling somewhat due to all the races I've entered. I've only 2 (possibly 3) 10ks, one 5 miler and the Great South Run left to do this year so the pressure is lessening now as they are all distances I know  can do without too much trouble. Despite my "never running another Half" feelings at mile 11 last Sunday I have in fact decided that I will give getting a new PB a decent go next year. This will mean training properly - plenty of long runs, which I've not had time to do this year because of the race calendar - and also plenty of ccross-training, which i've neglected. SInce we got Flossie and I spend at least a good hour walking her every single morning, I feel going to the gym or the swimming pool as well is a bit self-indulgent, but really, why shouldn't I?

Well done you runners I am truly impressed.  I was thinking of you all when I had a 5 minute interval training spurt in the park on Saturday - it did make me smile - the comparison!!!

Why not indeed Claire - you're worth it!  I hope you manage to find the motivation to get out Lesley.  It's not easy in these darkening days, but if we can't do things for ourselves, then who can we?  Am on a bit of a self-development mission with this!

I will go for another run tomorrow.  I'd thought about running down to pilates and back, but it will be a bit tricky with the pilates mat, so I might take the opportunity to drive on afterwards and try for a bit further.

It is tricky to get out when you've been at work all day, it;s dark and cold - I appreciate your predicament Lesley!

I ran a 10k raceon Sunday in teemmg rain and was very chilly by the end. I quite enjoyed it though could have down without the hills at the end!
