I have just finished reading Patrick Gale's 'Rough Music' and found it an engrossing tale. It took me a wee while to work out that Julian and Tim were the same person, but it was really well told and now, I must check out his other books.
I have just picked up a couple of books I ordered from the library. One of my favourite Scandinavian writers, Hakan Nesser 'The Strangler's Honeymoon' with Inspector Van Veeteren, and a little book I saw had a rave write up - 'Puddles In The Lane' by Alan Parker, who wrote 'Bugsy Malone'. It is a story of children growing up in the war.

The 39 Steps (to be followed by some more Richard Hanney adventures) - I'm
trying to read some old stuff at the moment.

Glad you enjoyed Rough Music Jeannie.

Shaun I love the 39 Steps! I was given it as a Form Prize in Form 1 (these days, y7) at school and as well as rereading it several times over the years I've also enjoyed watching the film(s) of it and seeing it on the stage.

I am currently reading (for book group)  the 'Bookman's Tale' by Charlie Lovett.  I am gripped b y it.  Basically it races (with many subplots) the history of a photo and a book back through to Shakespeare's time and examines the controversy about the authorship of his plays etc.  It doesn't claim to be actual history, rather a novel based on history.  It has many twists and turns and is pretty good.
