I tried making Nigel Slater's huge cheese scone yesterday and ran out of plain flour. I used spelt for the remainder Shaun, and it turned out to be just delicious - had to freeze some of it because it IS large!
I do hope that you friends down South have survived the storms unscathed - I have been thinking of you. We have been lucky and the sun is trying it's watery best to come through at the moment.

Hi Jeannie - your scone sounds lovely.  I have been eating Spelt for a long time, ever since I was diagnosed with wheat intolerance.  Sadly, it is rare to find places (bakeries etc) which provide goods made with 100% Spelt - it is usually mixed with Plain Flour. My tiny kitchen makes home baking much too much of a chore these days and, having moved into a minute house, my baking stuff is all in storage. So sadly, I have to do without.  But I have found a Spelt breakfast muesli which is lovely.  But, even Spelt, I have to limit.
The storms down here have been pretty severe.  We have trees down in Abingdon in the town centre near the Thames, and the banks of the River Ock (near my house) has lost a few trees also.  I am a bit worried about my son in Kent because, being an engineer on a Power Station, he has to turn out to work whatever the conditions.  He has quite a nasty journey at the best of times.
I am glad that all is well for you up there though.  I had a phone call late on last night from my 'long silent' friend in Stirling.  She was quite derisive about the weather forecast (not having taken in where the storm would be i.e. in the South).  She should be here now!!!!!!

Hope everyone in the Danger Zone has seen the weather pass without too many dramatic incidents. Hear in South Yorkshire...  it’s just another grey and slightly wet day, the same as about 300 days per year. No storms at all (yay!)

The wind howled in the night, which disturbed me, but not my dear husband, who snored through the whole lot.

No damage here, one of the feeders hanging off the bird table took off, but that seems to be all.

We are just about to take a look at the boat, and then to lunch at Gylly Beach to watch the sea.

This will make you laugh - Pete said this morning that there are 24ft waves around Longships Lighthouse (Lands End), so did I fancy a trip to the Scilies?!
*faints*

Well, our electricity has just returned... Yippee! Off for 12 or so hours. Beautiful sunshine now, although still blustery. No damage in our garden apart from a pot over and a large branch down. Sounded like gunfire as acorns hit the conservatory roof! Glad the storm is on it's way eastwards.

I think it sounded worse that it actually was in my area.  I didn't make it to the gym as it was far to blustery but the only damage I can see is to my garden fence panels.  Not heard from anyone about the church so hoping no news is good news but do suspect it probably has been a casualty re roof which will mean lots of work for me!!!!!

Jules, I glad all's well your end. It sounds like it wasn't to bad your end.

Well plenty of Wind here, but no serious damage. Lots of trees down around aylesbury vale. Sadly a man died in Watford after a Tree falling on his car.
It all seemed so exaggerated until I heard this.
It's passed now and all is back to normal

Francis took my Mum to the Hospital for her appointment this morning. The date is set. She is to have a new knee in January. (A date for my Diary)

We have managed to keep our heating off until today. The thermostat is set at 16c though. Which I think is relatively low. In fact it's still quite mild here.
