I am replying to your letter dated March 2002. My Great Grandfather
James W. Howerth was a brother to John Howerth who married Elizabeth
Bright and moved to Indiana from Harrison Co. Ohio. My great
Grandfather was born after they came here from England. He had
brothers John, Samuel, and sisters Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah and Ann.The
last 3 sisters named all married men by the name of Hinkle. I will
have to look over some of my records to see who Mary married but I
know she was married to a Dugan at one time. I believe their were two
other sons, One I believe was named Peter and the other one was born
dead. Peter and Great Grandpa were killed in a boat wreck on the Ohio
River over around Indiana.I know there were two children that were
born in England and came over with Great Great Grandma Sarah Bolton
Howerth. (from Bolton, England) Will have to check my records as I
have a paper stating Great Great Grandpa Samuel Howerth came later. I
believe the children born over there were Mary and John. The rest were
born after they came to the States. My Grandfather was Edward M.
Howerth born in Harrison Co in the eastern part of Ohio. Great Grandpa
James was married two times, 1st married to Narrcius Harriman and 2nd
to Lola Spears Randle.
!st marriage 3 children were born, Edward, Effie and Lydie. 2nd
marriage, 3 children were born Daisey, Florence and William (Butch).
Rebecca Spears Randle had a daughter by her 1st marriage, her name is
Lola.
I have a copy of a letter I sent to a Goetz in Indiana some years ago
but never heard back Thought it might be a relative of Minnie Goetz.
Also have a post card written by stella Perry to my grandfather
Edward. I know there is letters my Aunt Hazel got from Ira Woods
Howerth many years ago and some things he had sent about his travels.
Hope this will help in some way. I do have a family picture of Great
Uncle John's children with names and ages written on the back, also
pictures of different family reunions of mostly people I don't
recognize.
Hope I will hear back from you soon. Amember of the Howerth
family.....Monna Howerth Scrafford
