The basic premise of Kickboxer 3: The Art of War sees David Sloane headings off down to Brazil with Xian (Dennis Chan) to compete in an exhibition match. While there, they find themselves mixed up in a child slavery/prostitution ring that is being run by a sleazy American businessman. When the police prove unable to help, it's up to David and Xian to bust up this dirty business and seek justice for those being abused.

On paper, that sounds pretty dark, but you wouldn't know if from watching the film itself. Everything is played in a happy-go-lucky way, with even the villains being fairly polite in most cases. This might be the most laid-back action movie I have ever seen involving child slavery and forced prostitution. Everyone just kind of wanders around nonchalantly from scene to scene, as if they don't have a care in the world.

This was apparently shot back-to-back with Kickboxer 2: The Road Back. That film seemed to spend whatever its budget was on recognizable actors (Peter Boyle, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) and overly-long fight sequences, but was mostly shot in empty buildings. Kickboxer 3 appears to have gone the opposite direction. The scenery is greatly improved, with a lot of lush jungle, forest, and beach sequences, but almost nothing happens. We are treated to a couple short fights and (bizarrely) an extended gunfighting sequence, but that's about it.

Yes, gunfights. It seems that, for whatever reason, David and Xian are just as skilled with firearms as they are fist-and-footery, so they take a mansion by force, blowing away goon after goon, so that they can question a rich pimp. At least we get a kinetic action sequence out of it though, right? Wrong. It's just as nonchalant as the rest of the film.

Seriously, I don't even know what to make of this. Our villain, Frank Lane, is actually a fairly easy-going fellow. At one point he has David set up to fight his champion. Martine. Frank is holding a street urchin hostage, threatening to kill her, if David doesn't cooperate. Naturally he wants David to throw the fight, right? Wrong. He simply wants to guarantee that David shows up to the fight. He still wants him to do his best.

Huh? Well, he at least tortures David by busting him up, ensuring that he'll lose, right? Nope. While he does have one of his goons make David exercise to the point of exhaustion for a couple of days in a row, that's not exactly the most diabolical thing in the world. David isn't injured, he's just tired and sore. After Xian makes him a power shake that is composed of many weird things (palm leaves, moss, snake venom, etc.), David's as right as rain.

David naturally wins the match, causing Frank to lose everything financially, as he'd bet it all on Martine. Frank then tries to kill David, right? Not really. He threatens him a bit and then just returns to his mansion to mope in a corner before he's forced to move out of it. Seriously, what the hell is going on here?

Things don't truly get violent until David shows back up at Frank's domicile to both rub it all in and free whatever remaining enslaved servants Frank has. When Frank finally starts mouthing off about it all, David smacks him around and then leaves. Frank, finally having enough, pulls a gun on him and is stabbed to death in the gut by a knife-wielding kid for all of his troubles. Yep, our big baddie is done in by a kid who probably isn't older than 10.

Kickboxer 3: The Art of War is not only a bad movie, but it's also a bad sequel. It doesn't repeat the mistakes of Kickboxer 2, but instead manages to make all new ones. Both films are equally bad, but for entirely different reasons. To be honest, this one might actually be worse. I came out of the second film curious about the other sequels, because even though it was crap, Mitchell was at least a capable lead. I still feel that way about Mitchell, but at this point I am dreading the next one. Perhaps the third time will be a charm for the David Sloane section of this franchise, but I'm not holding out too much hope.

Rock's power within WWE helped he and Roman Reigns defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event of Night 1. The Final Boss looked in good condition throughout the match, his first extensive in-ring action since 2013.

Seven matches are currently scheduled for Saturday's event, and there are always some WrestleMania surprises along the way. Follow along with our live updates, bell-to-bell and match-to-match as it happens in Philadelphia:

Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins are out first, followed by The Final Boss in quite the entrance. The Rock walks to the ring with the People's Champion belt given to him by Muhammad Ali's widow on Friday at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. Finally, Roman Reigns comes to the ring with new HOFer Paul Heyman.

After a lengthy introduction, Rollins and Reigns will begin the match. A lot of headlocks and holds before Rhodes enters. The pace quickens a little bit, but not much. About eight minutes in, Rollins tags in as does, for the first time in the match, Rock. After a Rock clothesline, he asks Rhodes to Just Bring It. Rhodes tags into the match with the pace still slowed down.

Rhodes stomps Rock and tags in Rollins for a double team. Reigns tries to interject but is knocked down. Now the match has turned into the brawl one could have hoped for. Reigns now has the upper hand on Rhodes up the entranceway while Rock and Rollins battle on the floor. Rock threatens the referee with termination if he counts anyone out, and referee Chad Patton obliges.

Back in the ring, Rock uses the official and launches Rollins to the outside. Rollins favors his left knee, and Rock now works on Rollins' left leg. No need to remind Rollins of his World Heavyweight Championship match on Sunday.

Rollins and Reigns are now the legal men in the ring, I suppose. Reigns continues to work on Rollins' leg. Reigns and Rock now work together outside the ring to bounce Rollins off the ring steps. After a few more minutes of cutting Rollins off from the corner to make a tag, Rollins counters a Superman Punch attempt with a neckbreaker. Any Rollins momentum is stymied by a blatant low-blow by Rock, who has now tagged in. Rock continues to threaten the official with his job.

Reigns counters Rhodes with a Superman Punch for a 2-count. Reigns has a bloody nose and misses a spear. Cody Cutter and a Rollins splash only produces a 2-count. "I hate that damn song," Heyman says to Rollins at ringside.

Reigns spears Rhodes. Official is back in the ring, and Rhodes kicks out at 2. Reigns locks in a guillotine on Rhodes, and Rock holds Rhodes' legs to try and force a referee's decision. But Rollins curb stomps Reigns. Rock now goes over to Rhodes' mother to talk trash. Rhodes gives Rock the bionic elbow after getting the Rock's belt away from him. Rock hits the spinebuster but Rhodes counters the People's Elbow with the Cody Cutter. Rhodes sets up the Cross Rhodes on Rock, but Reigns hits Rhodes with a Superman punch. Chaotic.

Rollins cross body to Reigns to the outside while Rock tries to put Rhodes through the announce table. Rollins distracts Rock, and Rhodes Rock Bottoms Rock through the other announce table. A moment later, Reigns spears Rollins through the barricade. The obvious storyline observation: How will any of these guys be capable to win their matches on Sunday?

The finish: Rhodes gives back-to-back Cross Rhodes to Reigns, but Rock hits Rhodes with the belt before he can deliver a third. Rock is now the legal man and gives Rhodes the Rock Bottom and the Bloodline version of the People's Elbow. 1, 2, 3.

Bloodline Rules for Sunday's main event between Rhodes and Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. As Michael Cole mentions on commentary, the match that just happened is virtually that. Rock and Reigns stand tall as Night 1 ends.

Sami Zayn is embraced by his family before he heads to the ring. Chad Gable comes up to him next and tells Zayn that he won't accompany the challenger ringside despite the weeks-long training in preparation for Gunther. And before he reaches the entrance, Zayn gets a hug and some motivational words from Kevin Owens. If Zayn needs motivation for this match, he has all the sources to find it.

The finish: Zayn kicks out at a 2-count following a Gunther powerbomb, then counters a move into a Helluva Kick. Gunther kicks out at 2, then twice powerbombs Zayn for another 2-count. Gunther then barks trash talk to Zayn's wife sitting ringside as Zayn takes more offense. Another powerbomb by Gunther in between discussions with Zayn's wife, followed by back-to-back top-rope splashes. But Zayn digs in, reverses a third splash, does a brainbuster off the top rope and rattles off two Helluva kicks to earn the pinfall victory in about 16 minutes.

Gunther's reign of more than a year as Intercontinental Champion is over. Michael Cole calls it one of the biggest upsets of the last decade. Not sure where it would land, but the crowd definitely popped at the 3-count. Zayn and his wife embrace at ringside.

Jade Cargill teams up with Bianca Belair and Naomi to face Damage CTRL in Cargill's second WWE match. She made her WWE in-ring debut at the Royal Rumble in January, This match should be a stepping stone for what is next for Cargill, Belair and Naomi post-Mania.

Dakota Kai and WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Kabuki Warriors (Kairi Sane and Asuka) make up three-fourths of Damage CTRL. The fourth member of the group is WWE Women's Champion Iyo Sky, who will face Bayley in a title defense on Sunday.

The finish: The Kabuki Warriors break up a Cargill pin attempt of Dakota Kai, but Belair cleans house. Cargill plants Kai again and gets the pinfall victory. Naomi, Cargill and Belair embrace in the ring. No post-match angle as the trio poses.

Through the first few minutes of the match, no doubt which Uso the crowd is behind. "Jimmy Sucks!" is the chant as Jimmy beats Jey down. Instead of the "Boo!" "Yay!" responses to traded punches, the crowd yells "Yeet!" and a soft "No Yeet!"
