Hey Nino,

Happy to put something together for you to show how to feed the photogrid.  If there are a few people interesting in this, then I could definitely see if I can put together an example of how something like the photogrid can be Gallery.  Gallery seems to support a pretty useful REST API (http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:API:REST) and that would probably be one of the best ways to go for people who have PHP hosting.

What do you think?

Cheers,
Damon.

hello damon,

well i'm not a big fan of gallery myself, i looked into zenphoto that was pretty cool!
but i ended up useing imgbrowz0r with a hole lot of changes... i like the idea to just upload
pictures to a ftp folder, and then it does everything by it's self :)

i made one gallery here :
http://psychos.org/galleries

and when i saw the photogrid, i was just directly thinking about something like a big fullscreen (well full browser)
photogrid just to skip throu all the pictures and then klick on it and use fancybox to view them bigger with the hole
next image chibang.

it's just so much easier and to be honest, how often do we really write in all the meta data, into the cms for pictures, when uploading 20+ pictures?
if the meta is so importent there is a way to read it out form the image it self, i mean how many times do we want to writte all this meta!

so my plan would be a little php script that provides the feed for the photogrid. but i couldn't find anything directing me in that direction yet
on the documentation.. and since i'm stepping a bit over my boarders here, maybe you could give me a push in the right direction?

take care,
sayonara

It could definitely work with what you have there.  All you would need to do is produce some JSON output for the files that are stored in a directory, and it sounds like that is what you are talking about with your PHP script.

Once you have done that you basically need to write a bit of custom loading logic in the form of javascript for the "tileGrid.populate" call (which takes a javascript function that populates the grid).  How many images do you have in total as this may affect the way you implement things.

Sorry the doco is so poor at the moment (especially for things like the photogrid).

Cheers,
Damon.

don't worry i'm as poor as it can get with docu, back in my education my teacher hated me for it... :p
okay i'll try to figure out the json output from my script! why would it matter on how many pictures it's loading?
i'm thinking about loading a lot :D

i'm just imagening this huge wall of fotos and you can just swif throu them with your finger on the ipad :)
i don't even have one but it would be awsome gallery :)

Hello Damon,

Tile5 is a good library - especially after looking at the demo at http:http://smlexplorer.involver.com/

As you have indicated in the response, I reviewed the code to change "tileGrid.populate" but a little confused.

Would truly appreciate if you can share how one could go about implementing the same and how to name the tiles. As I can see one has to follow a certain naming convention so the function can be implemented properly. I am exploring  for some tools which can help me in creating tiles easily.

Your time and response is appreciated in advance.
Regards,
-Satish

Hi Satish,

Wow - I hadn't seen that particular demo... it's really well done.

I can see that people are doing some cool things with Tile5 in the non-mapping space :)  While I have a few other things to do today, I will definitely have a look at how implementing the photo explorer might look with some of the more recent revisions I've done to Tile5.

If you don't hear something back from me by early next week - feel free to send a follow up email.

Cheers,
Damon.
