Saturday, May 2: The Chavurah's very first Bat Mitvah service will honor Zivia Bea Brown, the daughter of Lisa Jo Epstein and David Brown. Services begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Germantown Mennonite Church, 21 W. Washington Lane.

Saturday, May 16: Let's Talk About 1948--For our final Havdalah event of the season, the Chavurah joins with our friends & interfaith partners for an evening of sharing food, thoughts, feelings and personal journeys about 1948--whose events that are known by Israelis as Yom Ha'atzmaut (Independence Day) and by Palestinians as the Nakba (Catastrophe).

Location: Germantown Mennonite Church, 21 W. Washington Lane

Discussion will be co-facilitated
by Rabbi Linda Holtzman, Tikkun Olam Chavurah
and Pastor Amy Yoder McGloughlin, Germantown Mennonite Church

Please bring a dish to share.

Join us at 6:00 pm for a potluck,
discussion, and Havdalah service, where we will explore our different understandings of this event by answering such questions as--
  • What stories did you learn about Israel's War of Independence?
  • How and when did you learn about the Nakba, the violent displacement of 700,000 Palestinians?
  • Does your family tell stories about 1948?
  • How have you made sense out of this information?
  • How has your identity as a Jew, Christian, Muslim, or secular person been shaped by this understanding?
  • What is your vision of justice in Israel-Palestine?
