Iwas wondering where The Forbidden Flower was shot. They are on an island with seemingly tropical climate, sandy beaches, beautiful flowers, and lush greens.

After some digging, the location is Wanning, Hainan, which is an island on the southern tip of China. If you've heard or know where Sanya is, Wanning is 2 hours away, about 80 miles northeast.

AvenueX only said it was on "southernmost island" Hainan- not a precise location, like WANNING, Hainan, which Sakie found, presumably from the same c-ent article that I also read. AvenueX also only used two pictures from the drama and no map to illustrate her statement.

But there was not a thing in her review about the other locations or if they were pieced together in studio (where? In the relatively new Haikou Movie Town?) from pictures and small "travelogue" style shots, notably the Qiang village. Or Xijing university (there is one by that name in Xi'an, btw (but I am only familiar with Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Wuxi campuses -some shots reminded me vaguely of the latter, but then, many campuses look alike and besides, there can be changes to those campuses, new buildings, old ones torn down etc: over the years the places can modify, esp. in China. )

Ming Dynasty, a Chinese historical drama, explores power struggles and romance as Sun Rowei rises from a concubine to Empress, facing conspiracies and political challenges in the imperial court. With a mix of romance, politics, and palace intrigue, it offers an engaging glimpse into Chinese culture, despite occasional pacing concerns.

Known as Nirvana in Fire or Lang Ya Bang, this compelling Chinese drama follows Mei Changsu, seeking justice for his family's wrongful accusation. With a riveting blend of political intrigue, martial arts, and complex characters, the series offers a captivating experience akin to Game of Thrones, making it a timeless and emotionally gripping watch on Prime Video.

Eternal Love of Dream, a spin-off and sequel to Eternal Love, brings to life a captivating romance between the Crown Prince and the Nine-tailed Fox Queen. Fusing fantasy, romance, and Chinese mythology, the drama excels in cinematography, costumes, and the compelling chemistry between the leads. Beyond the enchanting fantasy, it also offers a poignant human story, inviting viewers to reflect on life and love.

You Are My Glory, based on Gu Man's novel, unfolds a captivating romance between a popular actress and an aerospace engineer. The Chinese drama stands out for its intense and realistic storyline, featuring witty dialogues and sizzling scenes that defy typical romantic drama tropes. The electrifying chemistry between Dilraba Dilmurat and Yang Yang vividly brings Gu Man's characters to life.

Ashes of Love, a 63-episode Chinese drama, weaves a tale of love's resilience amid magic and celestial settings. Centered on Jin Mi, the plot explores her forbidden love journey with Xu Feng and Run Yu. The series starts slow but transforms into an emotional roller coaster, boasting stunning visuals, beautiful costumes, and intricate plots that make it a visual feast and one of the most romantic Chinese dramas on Prime Video.

Legend of Fuyao, based on the novel Empress Fuyao, offers a captivating mix of action, drama, romance, tragedy, and comedy. As one of the most riveting Chinese dramas on Prime Video, it follows Fuyao's quest to uncover her true identity and seek justice, with a well-crafted story, intelligent characters, and an engaging overarching plot of power struggles and destiny. The show impresses with its strong characters, beautiful plot, stunning setting, and impactful background music.

Luoyang, spanning 39 episodes, explores a mysterious case in the titular Chinese city, bringing together three individuals from different classes. This C-drama stands out with its intriguing crime and mystery storyline, maintaining a fast pace, suspense, action, and endearing characters. Beyond its visual appeal, high production value, and attention to detail, Luoyang impresses with its engaging plot and chemistry between characters, offering a unique viewing experience different from typical Chinese dramas.

The Forbidden Flower is a profound C-drama portraying the love story between an aspiring painter and a horticulturist/salon owner. While initially appearing as a flirty romance, it unfolds into a deep and emotional narrative, resonating with viewers through characters' struggles and moments of joy. The sizzling chemistry between Jerry Jan and Ruohan Xu, along with seamless cinematography and score, creates an immersive atmosphere, making it a great watch on Prime Video.

A winter-summer romance of He Ran; who was learning about the outside world, romance, and personal growth at a pivotal point of her life. Coincidentally, she met an excellent horticulturist, Xiao Han, who had a rough past and was content on a solo existence. He Ran and Xiao Han found the most important missing pieces in each other. Together, they regained the confidence and hope that life had to offer so where will their story go in a sea of paint and flowers?
