Thenight edition "NE" pear shaped bobber available in shop for bait coins is an identical bobber. You still get the bonus to casting distance and it's visually the same. As far as additional x-series benefits vs. the shop bobber, don't know about that one.
Headshot (sorry I didn't go to the trouble of spelling it correctly visually) made a good post in regard to potential x-series benefits. I remember him stating the x-series bobbers cast further and were more durable. As soon as I saw my pear x-series glow bobber get into the yellow on durability, I thought I'd look for a replacement I could knock around and save what was left of the x-series. Got the shop bobber and noticed my first max cast was identical to the x series. Not sure about the xp bonus, if there is one, but the max cast is identical. For anyone looking for a suitable replacement, it's identical without knowing all the hidden (or not) benefits to the x series bobber. So far I've noticed no differences to things like catch rates, but I'm not sure I'd notice anyway.
This has been something that bothers the crap out of me since I found out you can't repair them. I've used all of my x series constantly since I got them. My pear shaped one especially. I really wish they'd make them repairable for baitcoins as well, or re-obtainable. You can get the round one again from the new achievements last patch, but that's it. I've only been using them in tournaments and comps now instead of just for regular fishing. Or if I need some extra distance on a cast.
I have tested the X-series pear shaped against the regular pair shaped, and the baitcoin pear shaped. The X-Series gets 10ft roughly more casting distance than the regular pear shaped bobbers. The other two have the same thing about aerodynamics in their descriptions, but I can't say whether they cast farther or not. I only cast the slim one close distances, and never use the round one. I'll copy over my post from the other thread here with information on X-series gear.
X-series do have benefits over the normal tackle. The floats cast farther than their standard counterparts. The line wears slower, so it needs to be replaced less. The hooks and jigheads set the hook easier, and are less likely to become unhooked. The lures have exclusive colors that attract more fish. The night hat has the light. The fishnets have a larger maximum capacity. The rod cases/tackle boxes carry more reels and tackle etc....None of these things individually make a huge difference, but using all of them in conjunction will make a difference in your success overall.
I've noticed a slightly higher catch rate with bait coin lures, but not as much as x-series stuff. One thing I have noticed for sure, is that bait coin live baits definitely catch more fish. Even more so with event baits, so stock up on event baits whenever they come around. The regular baits such as large minnows that you can buy with baitcoins instead of in game cash seem to have a slightly increased bite rate as well.
Thanks for the info again. Just to clarify, we're talking about the x-series glow pear shaped bobber, right? I don't use the x-series standard pear shaped often, so can't attest to casting disance on that one. I may need to retest the bait coin shop version again, but I could have sworn the casting distance was the same. Will test again and see.
Ok, so I went to Texas to try both the NE Edition pear bait coin bobber available in shop vs. X-Series Glowing Pear Shaped. With a slight 3.8 mph northerly headwind, using x-series mono .02 on a brutus 11'10''/Thunderspin 4500 combo, 6/0 hook and large minnows, max cast for both was 148'. I tested a few times with identical results. Barring some unforeseen x-series benefit, I'd say this bobber is a great replacement float. Very happy with mine. For 4 baitcoins, it's quite the steal really.
I don't recall which of the nighttime challenges it is, it's either the one for weight of fish caught at night, or number of fish caught at night. Both are worth doing though, as one gives you the night bobber, and one gives you the lighted hat.
Well I have Insomniac III and Night Shift III. Night III is the lighted hat for 100 fish caught at night. Forget what the other gave. But it wasn't either of those for sure. I don't really play much anymore anywhere, my game is broken.
Been thinking the same thing last few days my xseries day pear bobber cast further than any other 142ft routhly. I ditched my other dlc brutus for a mor balanced setup and over last few months i have noticed my uni spots are already close to not reachable as it is i would be disapointed if i had to go back to my old setup even morso than loosing another 10 ft of distance i agree this needs to be either repairable( even with bc) or as said able to obtain mor than 1
