i remember baradwaj rangan complaining that ali uses songs to explain himself far too much but that's the point- he needs his audience to understand exactly what he understands about love. a world of loneliness behind harry's eyes as he's forced to look into sejal's with hawayein playing in the background is literally the entire movie distilled into 30 seconds; plot doesn't matter at that point, but what does matter is that you feel that exact emotion:
"Main joh tera na hua, kisi ka nahi, kisi ka nahi"
