I installed the Visual Studio Color Theme Editor (which enables theming of the rest of the UI, as opposed to just the editor) in hopes that it would do this automatically if I used one of its dark themes, but no such luck.

I tried using different mouse pointers in Control Panel, but even though the cursor changed in some cases (for instance, if I picked one of the "very large" schemes), it was still black and so nearly invisible.

Based on upvotes, it appears this is still a problem with Visual Studio and Windows 10 in 2024 (been updating this every year since 2016...).Working off of szalski's and T. J. Crowder's solution, it can be changed in Windows 10:

Hello, thanks for the neat updates with FC3 and voluminous other fixes with this latest update. I'm a VR user, and while the new mouse pointer is very sharp and high-res, It is now a very dark color, and I cannot see it when when moved over the cockpit panels. Am I missing something about settings, or is this something we can put on the list for an improvement, like going back to the color teal, or like green or even yellow which is easier on the eyes?

i will give MT another try. It's just that since mt rolled out my pimax 8k+ is super dizzy- time jittery when running it. It could be my settings like prerendered frames or something. I'll give it another try. Thanks for your work.

Well didnt I learn a thing or two. Turns out after I actually looked at the log, I was running in ST as well the whole time since MT has been out. I have the DCS steam version and use using a created shortcut to the bin-mt DCS.exe clearly doesnt work. I just launched MT via the steam library and the cursor is fine.

Yeh I just worked that out. I did have the shortcut set correctly, I just didn't realise the steam version doesn't use it properly "D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\DCSWorld\bin-mt\DCS.exe --force_enable_VR"

Hi community,
I made some customization to my kde desktop environment, after that when the system feels for it the screen turn black and only mouse cursor. i have a Radeon RX550 GPU.
the system take ages to restart or shutdown. a micro seconds before shutdown or reboot a post shows and disperses. so it seems that something is wrong with the shut down and reboot process!
I have also noticed that my pci-e paralel card is not installed.
i belive all this happened after the update, what have i done wrong?

i am in the desktop now, it happens ramdomly when it feels for it, Alt F2 gives me the search bar for get into console and chance to reboot the system. and reboot or shutdown process take long time. after reboot the system works fine and out of nowhere it happens again.

So every time I boot up my computer I am getting a black screen but my cursor is responsive. I tried rebooting in recovery mode but could not reinstall my OS because of Apple being unable to "verify" my computer. My macbook is a 2010 but I was just as the Genius Bar over Christmas to have my computer checked out and they said everything is running great. Any ideas? Solutions?

5. Your screen should then move on to something along the lines of "Completing OSX Installation" (I can't remember the exact wording). Let it finish. After that it should go to your normal desktop and the issue should be fixed. (If your screen goes pitch black during this process, hit the space bar. I thought it wasn't working, but the screen was just sleeping).

Unfortunately I cannot get past this black screen. It starts up I see the apple logo and progress bar. Then the black screen appears. Sometimes I see in the upper corner the banner that's says some apps could not be updated. It doesn't allow me to click on it. Then it goes away. Is my Mac fried? I have tried all the different options and nothing.

For me after pushing shift on start up and after the progress bar I would get to login enter my password then get the spinning beach ball and then it would go all black with just notifications and cursor showing so I entered my password and push enter and the blackness actually slipped down to reveal my computer all in one piece!!!

This seems to be an issue with how Apple is serving updates, or the updates were interrupted while attempting to install --> The update(s) hang, or get not installed, but/or the system is trying to install a non existing update.

I can't do anything with SMC mode because I can't see anything on my screen, no task bar or anything. And no my computer is not "just asleep" I have tried using the power button as well as the keyboard.

I have a brand new HP Pavilion laptop that I configured yesterday for use. This morning, when I booted the notebook, it went immediately to an HP BIOS update. Afterward, the power on/off icon on the lower right indicated it needed a reboot to complete installations/updates (presumably to update Windows 11). The laptop went through a couple cycles of updates and reboots, then presented me with a black screen with a mouse pointer. I've hard powered the laptop several times and this is the result: HP logo, "dong ding" tone for Windows 11 (I guess), then black screen with mouse pointer.

I've used PCs for 30 years (started with MS-DOS 5.0) and this is the first time I've ever had an issue with a PC out of the box where it would basically not function. HP's website says that this item is out of warranty, which is absolutely not correct. Please provide guidance and an explanation why I should not return this item to Amazon and choose another manufacturer.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your new HP Pavilion laptop. It can be frustrating when a new device encounters problems right out of the box. Let's try to troubleshoot the issue and see if we can find a solution:

Thanks for your response. What I did was access the Startup Menu (hitting ESC key multiple times during booting), then choose F11 System Recovery. One of the options is to back out of a recent Windows Update. That seemed to solve the problem. Although now when I tried to refresh my memory on the process by following the same steps, I see a blue screen that says, "Your PC/Device needs to be repaired" Error code: 0xc000000e.

Thank you for your reply,

The error code 0xc000000e typically indicates an issue with the Windows Boot Manager. It can be caused by various factors, including corrupted system files, incorrect boot configuration, or issues with the storage drive.

Given that you were able to temporarily resolve the issue by backing out of a recent Windows Update, it suggests that the problem might be related to a specific update. However, the fact that you're encountering the same error again indicates that there might be an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.

Thanks again. Unfortunately Windows Installation Media did not come with my laptop. Some of the tests that you describe below I might be able to run from the system tools that I can access prior to boot. The extensive test takes 4 hours, so I'll run it while I'm asleep!

Is there another way to upload proof of purchase? The laptop was bought in the past week, but HP says it's out of warranty, which is an obvious error. However, when I try to upload proof of purchase, I receive the following error message: "We're sorry

Thank you for your response, I appreciate your efforts. As the issue persists, I am sorry to hear that This needs one-on-one interaction I'm sending out a private message to assist you with the next course of action.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it or simply click on this link.

I ran into this problem only today. I was on an X11 session. Ran a system update. Rebooted and logged with under Wayland only to be met with a black screen and a large mouse cursor. Seems like a plasmashell error, so I ran

Never mind. It turns out that whatever trickery that automatically turned on modesetting without the need for the kernel parameter no longer does that. I had to explicitly add it to the kernel parameter and run grub-mkconfig to make it stick. I don't know what changed, but there you have it. Solved.

Unplugging the USB-C cable for a while, then plugging it back in resets the displays and everything is fine for a while. Sometimes it stays fine for hours, sometimes it does this after only a few minutes.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! it sounds like you're having an issue with the display on your external display intermittently showing a black screen with the cursor. We want to help with this. Does this happen when waking your MacBook Pro from sleep or while using your Mac? If while using it, does it happen when using a particular app or completing a certain task? You also mention the cable. To rule that out as a possible culprit, do you have another to test with?

There's an available macOS update that you'll want to install to see if that helps. Be sure to update your apps after updating macOS. We encourage you to back up your Mac prior to updating too. Here are some guides to follow for these steps, just in case:

I don't. But the screen goes black while still showing the arrow cursor, so it's hard to imagine how a dodgy cable could allow that to happen? I'd imagine that if it was the cable, the screen wouldn't show anything or would show a distorted image. In fact, it's just black and the arrow cursor shows clearly and moves with the touchpad or mouse.
