After it has scrolled down, it's possible to scroll up again, and everything loads works fine again, until a reload or a loading of a new page.
It's mainly scrolling down, but also left to right scrolls that are present on a page are all executed. Scrolling starts after loading the page, as soon as the mouse is moved above the page.

* I tried installing Other versions of firefox: Nightly, the regular, developer version, and ESR all have this problem. All running the latest versions in pacman as of this writing.
* The problem occurs both with X11 and Wayland.
* No other application on the system has this problem, other browsers (opera, vivaldi, chromium) on this system work fine.
* Firefox on windows on the same machine with dual boot is working fine, ubuntu from a live USB stick also creates no problems.
* Scrolling even happens when the firefox window has no focus
* I tried different window managers: fluxbox, gnome, kde, xfce, all with the same effect.

I was hoping someone else recognizes this or that there would be a known bug but I have not been able to find anything.
I have no idea in what direction I can look to solve this issue.
Any feedback is highly appreciated.

Yes, I solved it, finally
The behavior was (inexplicably) caused by an universal access setting in gnome, namely the screen reader. I didn't know it was on, accidently stumbled upon it, turned it off, and solved my problem. Even stranger, the screen reader did not work at all; additionally it also influences firefox behavior in other window managers too.

(Sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language)Hello, it's been many months that I have a problem with automatic scrolling FirefoxMaintain pressure on the mouse wheel can slide in all directions of the web page, very useful for long pages and also for very high resolution pictures.

Off for several release (from 40.0.0 I think but not certainty), scrolling stops and / or is extremely slow and choppy until the page is not fully charged. This is all the more painful if we wait for loading a heavy image on a slow site.

I tested with the Firefox Safe Mode and it changes nothing.Disable graphics acceleration nor solves this defect.Test a new blank profile ...Remove and reinstall Firefox ...Namely I met no automatic scrolling problem on Internet Explorer or Chrome.

As I visit large high resolution photo galleries, is often sucks having to wait finish loading before dragging on the page with the pressed wheel.I leave then your knowledge to help me determine the source of this defect.

On my website www.btoe.com I cannot scroll beyond 20 items in any of the lists. I have no problem with this issue using Safari or Chrome. I prefer to use Firefox as I find it faster usually but recently it will not scroll vying 20 (or two screen loads) On our website it shows Loading More Content, see below. It is really frustrating if we want to access items beyond 20 as some of our lists have over 1000 items!

Restarted Safe Mode and the problem is still there. Furthermore I have now just installed Opera and that also works perfectly along with Safari and Chrome. There is some nasty little bug in the latest Firefox.

I'm trying to figure out how to, upon pageload, automatically scroll to the bottom of a page (which has been described sufficiently here) and then scroll back up automatically upon reaching the bottom of the page. I can find the automatic scrolling to the bottom, but I can't figure out how to identify when I'm at the bottom of the page, and how to scroll back up when I am. I'd do this using generic Javascript (or JQuery).

When scrolling posts on Facebook, there are random jumps up to 6 new posts forward. It is necessary to scroll back and look for the last displayed post (photo, video, txt). It looks like firefox doesn't remember the last displayed position before updating the cache. It is very annoying because there is always a flicker.

I also have this problem and it has been occurring for several days now. My solution is to open Facebook in a different browser. I hate this. Totally ruins the experience. I have had a few pages crash while on Amazon.com as well.

I'm having this problem on facebork also..It's driving me a bit goofy...Currently using version 102.0.1. I've tried to downgrade to an earlier version but firefox just gives me a message saying that my profile might get corrupted or somethin like that if I don't create a new one...spose I coulda created a blank profile and tested it *shrug*

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. Please keep in mind that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.

I added a couple of steps to this.
1. Changed it to false, quit FF, relaunched FF and verified the behavior did not change.
2. Changed it to true, quit FF, relaunched and scrolled. Eventually, the autoscroll behavior reappeared, but it seemed to work OK for awhile. Admittedly, hard to be sure.

I've been having the same issue and thought it was a Facebook problem and reported it to them. A friend had also posted about having the same issue, but I didn't think to ask what browser she was using. I have not tried other browsers. I've noticed that the farther down the feed I scroll, the worse the jumping is. There was actually a day or two that I thought the problem seemed to not be as bad, but then it got even worse. I'm sure it happens when Facebook loads more posts at the bottom of the feed. I've not been on Facebook much today - yet - so I don't know what it's doing under FF 103.

Works for me, too. v 109.0, OS Ventura. However, it brings back the problem of viewing multiple images in a post. After clicking through several images i the post, the "X" close icon is broken. In first case, it was completely disabled, and disappeared upon reloading. In the second case, the view returned to some unrelated post, maybe not in the feed, and lines of tiny text appeared down the left side. Restoring scroll anchoring fixed the multi-image viewing and return to feed, but topic jumping returned.

I stumbled on this thread while trying to troubleshoot the same problem --driving me nuts for months-- and your fix worked. I really appreciate that people take the time to respond to queries in support forums --thanks!

I tried this with my default profile, and it didn't work. But after toggling layout.css.scroll-anchoring.reselect-if-suboptimal as well as layout.css.scroll-anchoring.suppressions.enabled, it did seem to work. I also tried in a new profile, changing just the setting you suggested, and it worked, consistently on/off, and after relaunching. Perhaps it's something about these scroll anchoring settings becoming corrupted from a migration routine, since an existing profile seemed to need extra toggling that a new profile didn't?

Yes - there is an issue with Firefox on sites like Facebook that do look-ahead buffering of the page. Once the buffer gets to a certain point it begins the wild-ass scrolling. This needs fixed. Hell, Firefox has issue with it's own forum doing silly page reloads. Not cool...

I reported this bug on latest March. As of now, its been fixed for me but i dunno whether or not its Twitch or my Brave browser's latest update. I highly recommend to switch to Brave since its fixed on it, in case the bug annoys you so much guys.

Will this ever be fixed? It's been over three years. Twitch is the only website I've seen with this bug. It's clearly related to the show more/less buttons and having the scroll bar automatically go to the bottom. There is no "trigger" to stop it continuously scrolling down. The problem can easily be solved.

Firefox 125, bug stiil present even with "Use autoscrolling" disabled in Firefox settings. It seems that hover over link/button/player window is enough to reset scroll position of a sidebar to 0. If you manage to press "Show more", somehow current sidebar scroll position is remembered and then after each hover scroll resets to remembered position.

Had the same issue for months aswell using firefox. I finally found a solution by go to firefox settings - type "autoscroll" on search bar - under "Browsing" section, turn off/check off the "Use autoscrolling" option.

Is this ever going to be fixed by Twitch? This is a terrible bug and I wind up having to unfollow people so that I never see the "show more" button. It scrolls down both the main window and the sidebar when this happens.

Only fix I have found is if you have BetterTTV and go through the settings and click one of the settings for sidebar that says auto expand. It has show more auto clicked and made me go less insane hope this helps
