Hello all...

I have this weird issue with TigerVNC Server , I am running version 1.8 via yum install.

Some users are reporting that TigerVNC runs on some servers and not others, when all are Red Hat 7.9

One user reports all is well on one server but can't connect to another server running same version of tigervnc and same version of tigervnc client in Windows 11.

With the main error just being black screen no mouse cursor.

When all servers were CentOS all was fine as I upgraded each server to Red Hat, weird issues have appeared, with nothing concrete.

One thing to mention that might affect the new Red Hat install with TigerVNC, is that we use NFS shared /home dirs  from one NFS server, then mounted on a dozen Red Hat servers.

Any help appreciated

Have a great day!

Unfortunately, that usually means TigerVNC started just fine, but your
desktop environment didn't. So it might be outside of our expertise.

What does the log file in ~/.vnc say? And have you checked if you have
any errors in the journal for the affected users?

Starting multiple copies of applications and desktop environments with
the same shared home directory is typically not supported and could
explain the issues you are experiencing.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?

Are you mounting /home statically?  If /home/<sid> is being mounted dynamically via automounter, etc then that's likely the culprit because Xvnc might be starting up before the user's homedir is mounted

Thanks for the replies.

The /home is static.

As for the log file here is the latest output of this person's last vnc attempt.

I see that bug report no..... , so I attempt to try to install 1.12, but seems more difficult than expected.
To compile from source, missing many packages, and when installing binaries, same thing lots of conflicts.

Has anyone ever installed 1,12 on Red Hat 7.9?
:)
Have a great day!

Absolutely.  In my case we're running 1.12 on CentOS 7.9 (and a few RH EL7 boxes), with NFS mounted home dirs but we're using Centrify for integration with AD rather than LDAP.

There are rpms you can try either from our github release page or nightly builds linked off the tigervnc.org page.

I think you can just can grab the rpms that you want to upgrade to, along with the rpm for tigervnc-selinux, put them all in a clean directory somewhere and then use “yum localinstall ./tigervnc*.rpm” and it should do the in-place upgrade.
