Hi,

can i run multiple instances of TigerVNC-Server on Ubuntu? One to control the 'real' desktop and one with a virtual desktop (as TightVNC)? Or run a second VNC-Server (TightVNC) together wir the existing TigerVNC?

Hi,

Should run just fine if you specify a different screen (= port number) for each instance i.e.
vncserver ... :0
for first VCN server
vncserver ... :1
for the second and so on.

If you use xrdp or an xinetd-started VNC server you don't need to have the second dedicated server. Not sure about getting the local console GDM session to have a dedicated VNCserver... But not having that second login active when you don't need it avoids wasting resources.

The multiple authentication dialogs on initial startup are annoying, but it is what it is...

i have installed "tigervnc-scraping-server". there is also a package called "tigervnc-standalone-server". i don't know what is the difference between the packages.

to run tigervnc-server at start i use this command:

=> x0vncserver -passwordfile /home/$USER/.vnc/passwd -display :0

when i run the same command with display :1 there is an error:

=> x0vncserver: unable to open display ":1"

The difference between them is one is to get remote access to an
existing session, whilst the other gives you a new ("virtual") session.

So x0vncserver is to provide access to your existing, local session. So,
it will generally not work with anything but :0.

For starting a second session, you should use vncserver.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
