Koivun makes cut at 2026 U.S. Open

By Tucker Cleverdon

Jackson Koivun made his eighth professional cut in his 10th career start as the Auburn standout shot 3-over to earn the right to play the weekend at the 2026 U.S. Open.

It’s Koivun's first major cut made in just his second major start. With two rounds remaining, he stands tied for 46th place. He’ll tee off the third round at 9:17 a.m. CT alongside fellow amateur Miles Russell.

In Thursday’s opening round at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Koivun carded a 2-over 72. He made three bogeys, one double and three birdies, which came on holes 3, 5 and 15. On Friday, Koivun improved on the prior day’s score by one shot, shooting a 1-over 71. After starting on 10, he turned at even-par with a birdie on 11 and a bogey on 17. A tough 3-over stretch on holes 1-4 was not enough to deter the young talent as he rebounded with back-to-back birdies on 5 and 6 to jump back inside the cutline, which ultimately fell at 4-over.

Koivun is one of just five amateurs to make the U.S. Open cut. He finishes ahead of a slew of big-name players, including Bryson DeChambeau (+5), Viktor Hovland (+5), Rickie Fowler (+5), Jon Rahm (+6), Si Woo Kim (+6), J.J. Spaun (+8) and Brooks Koepka (+10), among others.

Rising sophomore Logan Reilly shot 11-over in his first big-league appearance. He finished T12th out of the 20 amateurs in the field.

Koivun finalizes amateur career with top 25 at U.S. Open

By Tucker Cleverdon

Jackson Koivun concluded his amateur golf career Sunday at the 126th U.S. Open by clinching a share of low am and tying for 23rd place with a final score of 5-over-par.

Koivun shares low amateur honors with Oklahoma’s Ryder Cowan.

He fired rounds of 72 (+2), 71 (+1), 74 (+4) and 68 (-2) to make his first career cut at a major championship. Overall, it was Koivun’s eighth cut in 10 starts.

The Chapel Hill, North Carolina native broke out his Sunday best in the fourth and final round. He shot 32 (-3) on the front with back-to-back-to-back birdies on the third, fourth and fifth holes. He bogeyed 10 and 15, but those were his only blemishes on the card. He put the cherry on top with one final birdie on 18. His 2-under 68 is the lowest final round by an amateur at the U.S. Open since Viktor Hovland shot 67 (-4) in 2019.

Wyndham Clark won the U.S. Open with a score of 4-under-par.

Up next, Koivun takes a week off to prepare for his professional debut, which is set for the following week, July 2-5, at the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.

Jackson Koivun finishes T23 at U.S. Open, ties low amateur honors

By Christian Clemente

Ending his amateur career at the U.S. Open, Jackson Koivun showed why he's headed to the big league and belongs with the pros this week at Shinnecock Hills.

Auburn golf's former superstar shot rounds of 72, 71, 74 and 68 to shoot +5 overall for the tournament and finish T23 at his second career major championship appearance. Koivun tied with Oklahoma's Ryder Cowan as co-low amateurs, both finishing at +5.

He played in last year's U.S. Open, but missed the cut and didn't play the weekend. This year he fought on the cut line on Friday, but birdied two of his last five holes to get inside the cut line and book a tee time for the weekend. His third round of +4 (74) was his worst round of the weekend, which he promptly erased with his best round in the final round on Sunday shooting -2 (68).

Playing Saturday and Sunday's round with the No. 1 junior golfer in the world, 17-year old Florida State commit Miles Russell, the two were a featured group both days and had their rounds televised.

Koivun started very strong on Sunday morning, with back-to-back-to-back birdies on holes No. 3, 4 and 5 and shot -3 (32) on the front nine. He had bogeys on No. 10 and 15 on the back nine, but ended his day and round with a birdie on No. 18.

His finish was above the likes of Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Keegan Bradley, Cameron Young, Jordan Spieth and some other notable names to make the cut. Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland and Patrick Cantlay were some of the notable names to miss the cut that Koivun also finished ahead of.

Now it's officially time to turn pro, as Koivun will make his official debut as part of the PGA Tour at the John Deere Classic on July 2-5.

He was not the only Auburn representative at the U.S. Open, with freshman Logan Reilly also in the field. Reilly started off Thursday strong and was just +1 through eight holes, but saw some struggles from that point on at the challenging course and finished Day 1 at +9 (79). He put together a much better round on Friday, shooting +2 (72) but still missed the cut. He was T12th out of the 20 amateurs that qualified in his very first major championship appearance.

By Riley Hubbard

Five Auburn golfers will compete this week at the R&A Women’s Amateur Championship, also known as the British Amateur, at Muirfield in Gullane, Scotland. The championship will be played Monday through Sunday. Auburn’s Charlotte Cantonis, Balma Dávalos, Anna Davis, Anne Fernandez and Gia Raad are set to compete.

The tournament begins with 36 holes of stroke play featuring all 144 players on Monday and Tuesday. The leading 64 players after two rounds will advance to match play. Six rounds of match play will be contested Wednesday through Saturday to determine the champion.

Charlotte Cantonis, a rising sophomore, enters the event following a stellar first season on the Plains. In 13 tournaments this past season, the SEC All-Freshman Team selection posted a 71.91 scoring average and five top-10 finishes. Balma Dávalos earned All-American honorable mention honors during the 2025-26 season after a strong fall with the Tigers. Through six events, Dávalos posted a 70.68 scoring average and is currently ranked No. 57 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).

Rising Auburn senior Anna Davis had an impressive run at this championship last year, finishing as a quarterfinalist in 2025. Davis finished stroke play at 3 over, then defeated Jessica Hall 4 and 3 and Havanna Torstensson 4 and 3 to reach the quarterfinals, where she fell to Tillie Claggett. During the 2025-26 season, the second-team All-SEC honoree posted a 71.09 scoring average in 13 tournaments and claimed three individual titles. Davis currently holds a World Amateur Golf Ranking of No. 19.

The Women's Amateur Championship - Previews (2).jpgAnne Fernandez, a rising junior, competed in eight tournaments this past season and posted a 73.00 scoring average. She recorded two top-five finishes at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational and the Tar Heel Invitational. Auburn signee and incoming freshman Gia Raad will also compete this week. Raad, who signed with the Tigers in November, is a two-time South African Amateur champion and won the Africa Amateur in 2025.

The winner of the Women’s Amateur Championship will earn exemptions into the AIG Women’s Open, U.S. Women’s Open, the Amundi Evian Championship, the Chevron Championship and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.

Live video of the final three rounds will be available through R&A TV, while live scoring will be available at RandA.org.
