Tigers take down Notre Dame, Michigan State to open NFCA Leadoff ClassicBy Taylor Shirey
Bouncing back from its opening day loss, Auburn softball (2-1) responded with a pair of wins, taking down Notre Dame (0-1) and Michigan State (1-1) Friday at the Eddie C. Moore Complex to open the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
“It was very important for this team to find a way to win today,” said co-head coach Chris Malveaux. “It was a big response from yesterday. We’re a young team. They need to figure this out. We did enough in different parts of game to put ourselves in position to win. It wasn’t as clean as we would have like, but we got two wins over two good teams. For where we’re at, kudos to our team for not caving and not backing down.”
Auburn jumped out to a 4-0 lead over Notre Dame to open Friday’s action. The Tigers had to dig deep to fight off a comeback bid, holding off the Fighting Irish for a 5-4 win. Auburn had to come from behind to take down Michigan State. McKaela Walker’s grand slam put the Tigers in front as Auburn held on for a 9-6 victory.
Freshman Haven Roebuck and junior Ma’Nia Womack led the Tigers at the plate. The duo both went 4-for-7 across Friday’s doubleheader. Roebuck slugged two doubles and drove in two runs. Walker led the team in the RBI column with four off her grand slam. The home run was the first for the Tigers this season.
SJ Geurin went the distance against Notre Dame to earn her first win of the season. Auburn used four pitchers in its win versus Michigan State. Malayna Tamborra earned the victory while Ella Harrison earned the save.
AUBURN 5, NOTRE DAME 4
Auburn took advantage of free passes in the first frame as a walk and error at first base put runners on the corners for the Tigers. A wild pitch allowed Womack to score the first run of the game as she scored safely from third. Freshman Haven Roebuck slugged a double to the right field wall to score Destiny Rodriguez, pushing Auburn’s lead to 2-0. The Tigers extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the second with a two-out triple from Womack.
The Tigers’ clutch two-out hitting continued in the top of the third as redshirt sophomore Kyla Stroud drove in a run with a single through the left side.
The Fighting Irish cut into the Tiger lead in the bottom of the of inning with back-to-back doubles. Notre Dame made it a one run game in the fifth inning off a Rebecca Eka home run.
Sophomore Annalea Adams plated a much-needed insurance run in the top of the seventh with an RBI triple, her first hit of the season, to push Auburn’s lead to 5-3.
Notre Dame led off the home half of the frame with back-to-back hits to put runners on the corners. The Irish made it a one-run game once again, driving in a run of a sacrifice fly.
Geurin was able to shut down the threat with back-to-back fly outs to secure Auburn’s first win. She closed the contest allowing four runs off 10 hits and a pair of walks while striking out one to move to 1-0 on the season.
Roebuck has a breakout performance at the plate as the freshman went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Womack finished 2-for-3 with two runs score and an RBI.

Michigan State jumped out to an early lead with a first-inning, two-run blast from Hannah Hawley, but Auburn immediately responded in the top of the second.
The Tigers loaded the bases with a walk, Spartan error and an infield single from Kylie Brockman. With two outs, Alyssa Hastings plated the first run, drawing the bases-loaded walk. Walker made the Spartans pay with her first career grand slam, a shot to straightaway center.

Adams and Roebuck traded doubles to lead off the frame and push the lead to 6-2. Kylie Shaw singled on a bunt, while an errant throw on the play allowed Roebuck to score. Brockman made it an 8-2 contest with an RBI single to center.
A pair of Auburn errors in the bottom of the frame proved costly as Michigan State scored a pair of unearned runs to cut the Tiger lead in half. It was a similar story in the sixth inning as two more Auburn errors resulted in two additional runs as Auburn took an 8-6 lead into the seventh.
Brockman plated an insurance run in the finale frame off a sacrifice fly. The Spartans countered in the bottom of the seventh with a double, but Harrison responded with three strikeouts to pick up the win.
Brockman closed the game 2-for-3 with two RBI. Womack and Shaw both turned in a pair of hits against the Spartans. Walker finished 1-for-2 with her grand slam.
Auburn used four total pitchers in the win. Abby Herndon earned the start, tossing two innings. Tamborra earned the victory in relief. She tossed two innings and allowed just two hits and a walk with one strikeout. Charley Butler made her debut with 1.2 innings of relief.
GAME NOTES
Ava Ratliff made her first collegiate start, earning the starting catcher nod versus Notre Dame.
Charley Butler and Daigle Wilson made their collegiate debuts versus Michigan State.
All five of Auburn’s runs in the Notre Dame contests were scored with two outs.
Haven Roebuck knocked a first-inning double against the Irish to record her first collegiate hit and first collegiate RBI. Roebuck finished the game 3-for-4 for the first multi-hit contest of her career.
Ma’Nia Womack matched her career high with two hits versus Notre Dame. She last recorded two hits in a game since April 4, 2025, at Kentucky. It was the second multi-hit game of her career.
Womack also tallied two hits against Michigan State to pick up her third multi-hit contest of her career.
AnnaLea Adams’ seventh-inning triple versus the Irish was the first of her career.
SJ Geurin went the distance versus Notre Dame to record the sixth complete game of her career. She now has 24 careers wins as an Auburn Tiger.
McKaela Walker slugged the first grand slam of her career and the third career home run in the second inning versus Michigan State. It was the first grand slam hit by an Auburn Tiger since KK McCrary versus Georgia on April 13, 2025.
It was Walker’s first home run since Feb. 28, 2025, vs. Notre Dame.
Kylie Brockman knocked two hits versus Michigan State for her fourth career multi-hit contest. She also added two RBI for her fourth multi-RBI game of her career.

Softball stuns No. 9 Clemson, falls in extras to PittBattling a pair of ACC programs in day two of the NFCA Leadoff Classic, Auburn softball (3-2) handed No. 9 Clemson (3-1) its first loss of the season before falling in extra innings to Pitt (3-1) Saturday at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.
“We had an uphill battle to climb against Pitt,” said co-head coach Chris Malveaux. “We had an emotional first game and had to flip the page and go again. Kudos to the team. We were down big early and clawed back into it. It huts to not finish that one off, but they fought. They competed. To even take the lead back shows a lot of what this team is made of.”
Auburn jumped out to an early lead over Clemson and did not let off the gas, cruising to a 10-5 victory to pick up its first ranked win of the season. Pitt had an 8-2 lead in the third inning, but the Tigers clawed all the way back and ultimately fell 11-12 in extra innings.
Junior Alyssa Hastings led Auburn at the plate with a 4-for-6 effort across Saturday’s doubleheader. She added two RBI and scored a run. Sophomore AnnaLea Adams knocked four hits, including a double and two home runs to pick up four RBI. Haven Roebuck knocked three hits, including two doubles, and led the team with six RBI.
Ella Harrison earned the victory in Auburn’s win versus Clemson with a complete-game effort. She struck out a six in her win as a Tiger. SJ Geurin tossed 7.1 innings of relief in Auburn’s comeback bid versus Pitt, totaling five strikeouts.
AUBURN 10, CLEMSON 5
Auburn used two-out magic to build a first-inning lead in its opening contest. With senior Destiny Rodriguez aboard with a two-out double to left, Adams connected with her first home run of the season.
A two-out rally worked yet against in the top of the second as Rodriguez knocked an RBI single through the left side to score junior Georgia Lessmann and build a 3-0 lead.
Clemson was able to get a run back in the bottom of the frame after taking advantage of an Auburn error. Another Auburn error in the fourth inning plated a second Clemson run, cutting Auburn’s lead to 3-2.
Auburn answered in the top of the fifth as Adams singled to right field and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Roebuck drove in the insurance run with a single to right field before moving an additional base off a Clemson error. Roebuck took third on a passed ball before junior Kylie Brockman drove her in on a sacrifice fly to push Auburn’s lead to 5-2.
Sophomore Kylie Shaw set the table in the top of sixth with a one-out single. Junior Ma’Nia Womack doubled her home to extend Auburn’s lead by four. Clemson responded in the home half, scoring two unearned runs with help of an Auburn error.
Auburn broke open the game in the top of the seventh as a hit by pitch, walk and passed ball put two in scoring position with no outs.
Freshman Daigle Wilson singled through the left side to pick up an RBI before Brockman doubled home two more Auburn runs. Alyssa Hastings made it a 10-4 contest with an RBI single through the right side.
Clemson scored its final run in the bottom of the seventh with help of the fourth Auburn error of the contest. All five of Clemson’s runs were unearned.
Harrison went the distance to earn her first win in an Auburn uniform. She allowed just six hits while scattering six walks She struck out a season high six batters.
Shaw, Rodriguez and Adams all tuned in multi-hit efforts versus the Tigers of the ACC. Adams drove in a pair of runs while Brock set a season high with three RBI.

Auburn found itself in an early hole as Pitt scored four runs in the top of the first off four hits and two walks. Roebuck cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame with a two-out double, but Pitt answered with a second four-run inning to hold an 8-2 lead after two.
The Tigers responded with seven unanswered runs. Adams started the comeback bid with a solo home run in the third frame. Rodriguez added a solo home run in the fifth to cut Pitt’s lead to 8-4.
Auburn scored five runs in the fifth innings. Roebuck delivered the game-tying hit with a two-out, three-run double. Brockman followed with an RBI single to left field to give Auburn a 9-8 advantage, but Pitt connected with a solo home run in the top of the seventh to tie the game and force extras.
With the international tiebreaker rule in play, Pitt and Auburn traded runs in the eight to make it a 10-10 contest. Pitt was able to push across two runs in the top of the ninth to take a 12-10 lead. Hastings drove in a run with an RBI single to right field to get the tying run on board for Auburn, but the Tigers were unable to capitalize.
Geurin (1-1) tossed 7.1 innings of relief and allowed just one earned run. She scattered five hits and three walks while striking out five. Freshman Charley Butler earned the start and recorded three strikeouts.
Brockman and Hastings both went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the night cap. Roebuck tallied five RBI off her two hits. Rodriguez and Adams both turned in two hits and two RBI versus the Panthers. Both of Adams’ hits went for extra bases.
GAME NOTES
Delaney Aumua earned the first start of her collegiate career with the nod in right field versus Clemson. Aumua recorded the first hit of career in the contest with a single to center.
Melania Loustari made a pinch-hit appearance in the sixth inning versus Clemson to make her collegiate debut.
Charley Butler earned her first start of the season with the nodded versus Pitt.
Destiny Rodriguez recorded her first double in an Auburn uniform in the first inning versus Clemson. It was her ninth double of her career.
With multiple hits in both contests, Rodriguez now has three multi-hit games this season and 16 in her career.
Rodriguez hit her first home run in an Auburn uniform with her solo blast in the fifth inning versus Pitt. It was her first home run since 2024. She now has six in her career.
AnnaLea Adams slugged the first home run of her sophomore season with a two-run blast in the first inning versus Clemson. She added her second home run of the season with a solo shot in the third inning versus Pitt. She now has 12 career home runs.
Adams recorded multiple hits and multiple RBI across both of Saturday’s games to bring her season totals to two multi-hit games and two multi-RBI games. She now has 16 career multi-hit games and 15 career multi-RBI games.
Ma’Nia Womack slugged her first double of the season in the sixth inning versus Clemson. It was the second double of her career.
For the third time in five games, Kylie Shaw has recorded two hits. She has three career multi-hit contests to her credit.
Daigle Wilson’s RBI single in the top of the seventh versus Clemson was the first hit and RBI of her collegiate career.
Kylie Brockman recorded a season high three RBI versus Clemson for her second multi-RBI game of the season. She has now recorded five career multi-RBI games.
Brockman set a career high with three hits versus Pitt. It was her second multi-hit contest of the season and the fifth of her career.
Ella Harrison went the distance versus Clemson for his first complete game as a Tiger and her 19th career complete game effort. Harrison’s win was her first as a Tiger and her 13th career win. She struck out a season high six.
With two hits versus Pitt, Haven Roebuck recorded her second multi-hit contest. She closed the game with a season high five RBI. She is the first Auburn Tiger to record five RBI in a contest since Kylie Brockman vs. Troy on March 5, 2025.
Alyssa Hastings set a season high with three hits versus Pitt. It was her first multi-hit game of the season and the 31st of her career.
Auburn’s win over Clemson was its seventh top-25 win in the Malveaux era. Auburn improved to 7-19 against ranked foes since the Malveaux took the helm

Auburn softball walks off Penn State to conclude NFCA Leadoff ClassicBehind a gem from sophomore pitcher Ella Harrison and a walk off effort by McKaela Walker, Auburn softball (4-2) concluded the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a 4-3 victory over Penn State (4-1) Sunday at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.
“That was such an important game,” said co-head coach Chris Malveaux. “It was a quick turnaround. We were tired and giving it everything we had. Ella (Harrison) had such an incredible outing. It gave us a chance. We’ll take a win however we can get it. You put pressure on the defense. It’s a tough play to make. You never know what’s going to happen.”
With the game locked at 3-3, Auburn led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk from junior Ma’Nia Womack and a single from senior Destiny Rodriguez to put the winning run in scoring position.
Penn State answered with two quick outs and forced Walker into a 3-2 count. Walker knocked a ball up the middle, but an errant throw by the Penn State shortstop allowed her to reach safely to keep the game alive for Womack to score the winning run.

She kept Penn State off the board until the fifth inning and allowed just two earned runs in Sunday’s contest. Harrison scattered five hits and a pair of walks while setting a season high with 11 strikeouts.
Four Tigers turned in multi-hit efforts in Sunday’s game. Sophomore Kylie Shaw went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Rodriguez finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Haven Roebuck went 2-for-4 with a run scored while junior Kylie Brockman finished 2-for-3 with a double.
After a scoreless first inning, Auburn got on the board in the bottom of the second. With Walker on board via a hit by pitch, Brockman doubled to move two Tigers into scoring position. Redshirt sophomore Kyla Stroud pushed across the first run with a sacrifice fly to right.
That score held until the fifth inning. Penn State took advantage of an Auburn throwing error to score an unearned run to lock the game at 1-1, but the Tigers responded in the home half. Rodriguez stepped to the plate with two outs and the go-ahead run standing at first base. She slugged a double off the centerfield wall to put Auburn back in front 2-1.
Penn State’s Natalie Lieto connected with a two-run home run in the top of the sixth to keep the back-and-forth alive in the late innings. Once against, Auburn answered in the bottom of the inning.
Roebuck led off with a double to put the tying run in scoring position. At the plate with one out, Brockman delivered the equalizing base hit to tie the game yet again to set up Auburn’s walk off in the seventh.
Penn State had an opportunity in the top of the seventh as a single and stole base put the go-ahead run in scoring position, but Harrison countered with a pop up and two ground outs to end the threat.
GAME NOTES
Kylie Shaw recorded two hits for the fourth consecutive games, bringing her career multi-hit game total to four. Shaw recorded the first double of her collegiate career in the contest.
Haven Roebuck recorded the third multi-hit contest of her career and added her fourth double of the season.
Destiny Rodriguez recorded her third multi-hit contest of the season and the 16th of her career. With her second double of the season, Rodriguez has 10 career doubles to her credit.
Kylie Brockman went 2-for-3 at the plate for her third multi-hit game of the season and the sixth of her career. With two doubles over opening weekend, Brockman has matched her 2025 season total and brought her career total to four.
Ella Harrison recorded her second complete game of the season and the 20th of her career. Improving to 2-0 this season, Harrison has 14 career wins.
Harrison struck out a season high 11 batters. It marked the eighth time in her career that she has struck out 10 or more batters in the game and the first time since April 4, 2025, at Penn State, while pitching for Rutgers.
She is the first Auburn pitcher to record 10 or more strikeouts in a game since Maddie Penta struck out 21 vs. UCF on May 18, 2024.
