Auburn basketball recently wrapped up its first season since the 2013-2014 campaign without Bruce Pearl in charge.

Since stepping down as head coach in September, Pearl has remained active. He’s still an Auburn employee, now holding the title of Special Assistant to the Athletic Director.

Pearl’s contract in his new role is for six years and is set to pay him $150,000 annually, according to a copy of the contract obtained by AL.com.

Pearl will also receive benefits such as a university-provided automobile, two premium seats for each home football game and full access and all monthly dues paid for either the Auburn University Club, Moore’s Mill Club or an annual $3,000 allowance toward a club of Pearl’s choosing in the greater Auburn area.

As Special Assistant to the Athletic Director, Pearl will report to athletic director John Cohen. His obligations will include, fundraising, promotional, public relations, recruitment and “other activities benefiting the University as determined, directed and approved by the Athletics Director,” the contract reads.

Per the contract, “These activities include but are not limited to: radio and television programs; internet activities; websites; ”chat room" conversations; engagement with institutional and/or sport-specific social media accounts; social media accounts; speaking engagements; endorsements, shoe, equipment and apparel consulting agreements; and all other athletics related activities or activities that capitalize, advertise, utilize or promote employee or employee’s involvement in University athletics."

Along with his duties as Special Assistant to the Athletic Director, Pearl recently completed his first season as a college basketball analyst for TNT and CBS Sports. In that role, he was a studio analyst throughout the NCAA tournament and on Selection Sunday.

While covering college basketball this past season, he was often involved in conversations about Auburn’s status on the NCAA tournament bubble. Pearl often made Auburn’s case for a spot in the tournament, which drew criticism at times, some of which coming from Miami (Ohio) athletic director David Sayler.

Miami was another team on the bubble, but ended up making the tournament as an at large team. Auburn, who went into Selection Sunday with a 17-16 record, did not.

Despite still being on Auburn’s payroll, Pearl continued to be involved in conversations about the Tigers’ tournament hopes, all the way up to Selection Sunday. CBS Sports did not respond to multiple requests for comment from AL.com during March in the lead up to Selection Sunday.
