To compare to my 34 year old Rolex Submariner:
The indicies are slightly smaller (but I can't compare them to the
newest generation as I do not have one. Having looked at one at the
store, the new indicies seem smaller on the current generation of Rolex
because of the "pan" that the luminous material is in compared to the
older watches, so they are probably closer to the Shark). It is more
noticable on the quarter hour rectangles than the five minute dots.
Fit and finish of the case is comparable between the two watches (in
fact the Shark is nicer but it hasn't been beaten up for 30+ years)
though the crown in the Shark is smaller than the old Rolex. The band
on the Tiger Shark is superior in every way to the older style
Submariner... (mine is so old that it has folded links instead of the
newer solid links). The new band is very comfortable and sizes without
having to open the fold links that my Rolex required (though I prefer a
non-tapered band).
I haven't had it long enough to judge the luminsoity in the dark, but I
keep my watches on an autowinder under a "plant grow lamp" (high UV and
it tends to keep everything charged) so I should know in a few days.
Since the Shark is half the price of the original Rolex price, it is a
watch I can easily recommend. If you want a classic dive watch without
spending almost 20 times the price, this is the watch to own.
I also had a chance to look at the 42 mm prototype and to tell you the
truth, if if had been available I would have quickly picked it over the
classic size, even with my skiiny little arms. I am hoping that it
comes as a future offerring with oversized markers as my old eyes would
appreciate an easierr to view face. :)
