Hello JC,
A hardship letter is individual, it pertains to your reasons for requesting a
hardship transfer. You need to explain why commuting to a prison is difficult, for medical reasons, financially or whatever your reason. If it's for medical reasons, you need to get your Doctor to write a letter for you, stating why long trips should be avoided. You need to document your story clearly. TDCJ is very particular about granting transfers, it involves extra work on their part and honestly they don't want anymore work.
I have gotten 2 medical hardships since my son has been in, once was because my husband used oxygen and our son was in Abilene. We had to take 4 tanks with us when we visited, which is very dangerous. It took about 6 weeks to get him transferred. The last time he was in Beto Unit 300 miles from me. I could not sit in a car for 6 hours,I have spinal arthritis. I would have to leave on Friday, spend the night, visit, and then try to make the trip that day, which would almost put me in the hospital. It took 3 weeks to get him moved. Now he is 50 miles away, which is still uncomfortable but a lot better than 300 miles.
Hope this helps, Good Luck!
Been there, Done that!
Linda
