Hi

Do you know that the unit where your husband is already has jpay set up?
All you need to do is go onto the jpay website and register online. You can
use a credit card to purchase stamps....each page is 44 cents, like a
regular postage stamp. You can purchase, I believe, up to 20 emails. That
runs around $8-something, or 20 stamps worth. Or a lesser amount if you
prefer.

Jpay's website states that letters will be delivered within a 48 hour range.
However, a word of caution....much also depends on the unit mailroom too,
when they actually deliver the email letters to the inmate. The first one I
ever sent to my son he received the next day which was great. The second
one I sent, however, took over 4 days to reach him. If you do one on a
Thurs. or Fri. it doesn't necessarily mean they will receive it as no mail
is delivered on Sat/Sun. And the last one I sent him he has never-ever
received at all. My son thinks it must have been printed out but delivered
to a wrong inmate.

My son doesn't especially care to receive these jpay emails, even though it
is convenient for us doing them. He fears delivery to the wrong inmate
which does often happen with mail inside the prisons. The lettters are
printed out and folded in half and secured at the top with a piece of tape
for delivery to the inmates. But then this is just my son and his thoughts
on jpay emails. He still prefers me to send him letters through the regular
mail.

Hope this helps. I wanted to do these for "quick" word to my son, but you
really just can't depend on it when the unit mailroom is
involved....unfortunately.

I have also learned to number consecutively the letters and e-mails so
that I know which ones he did not get.

Another tip: Write your e-mail in a word processing document first.
Saves time. Then cut and paste into the e-mail, that way you always
have a copy for your own records to refer to if needed. You can guage
how much a single page e-mail will take. In my program I can get a
page and a half and it will fill up the e-mail. Leave the last two
lines or it will go to 2 pages and you will get charged an extra stamp
for the words, love-mom. If you have a longer letter, delete any
lines between paragraphs. Set the font size to small and it will take
more. Normally I use font size 12 in the wp document and medium font
on the e-mail. Equivalent to a page and a half for a letter. Snail
mail takes from 4 to 6 days. E-mail is most useful for immediacy.

Thank you both so much!

for helping me, i had to send my hubby an emergency email! Im not going to visit and i didnt have a way to letting him know! I think this is a cool way to letting your loved one know any last minute changes! Its not going to replace our sharing letters to each other!

Thanks again ladies God Bless you and your families! Have a great Thanksgiving!
