One of our members passed this along after I sent out an article about
what proposed budget cuts could do to TDCJ (and our loved ones) in a
couple of years. (If you would like to receive similar articles, join

Her response:
My son is at Hughes Unit at Gatesville and he said that there were
guards measuring the space in the dorm to possibly install bunk beds.
That would mean that there will be twice as many men in the dorm and
the guys will be literally "stacked" on top of each other. To me this
is not a good thing.

I totally agree! ~ Susan

Not good news. makes me wonder about the budget decisions coming out
of TDCJ and the parole board who seems to have a stiff retention
policy I understand the legislature has introduced bills for 55 new
laws carrying criminal penalties. There also seems to be a movement
afoot to require the budget office or some such agency to calculate
cost to taxpayers for each law in relationship to cost of prosecution
and incarceration. Hope something happens on this.

Has anyone heard how long it takes once someone gets paroled just how
long it takes to actually be released from prison? I have heard that
it takes as long as 18 months in some cases and that these people are
no longer counted as being included in the population count. Just
puzzled as to why this is necessary.
