I have a Dell Laptop dv6-2173 about circa 2010. I have lost all audio (both speakers and microphone). Perhaps this was due to an update of the drivers on this computer by CCleaner. To make matters worse, I recommended CCleaner to two buddies; one with the exact same laptop and another with a Lenevo of about 2015-16 circa. Shortly after activating CCleaner on their computers, the same thing happened to them. We are all running Windows 10 Home 64 bit version. Help! I need to get my speakers and microphone back on my Dell Laptop as well as stay friends with my two buddies. What do you recommend I (we) do?

Hello - I am one of Steve's buddies referenced in the original post by Steve N. The audio issue mentioned OCCURRED DURING THE FREE TRIAL PERIOD of CCleaner, on two HP laptops (not Dell), and partially on one Lenovo laptop. The problem happened sometime 12\2\2021 and 12\17\2021 during the 2 or 3 times the application was run. Within a few days, all of our laptops started having issues - no audio on the HPs, and no microphone on the Lenovo. The day after that, at least two of us (maybe all three) started getting marketing pop-ups from CCleaner trying to get up to buy the product. I was leery about purchasing CCleaner since after running your tool just once or twice I had the first major issue with my HP laptop that I've ever experienced. While I was trying to figure out what happened to my laptop, and how to fix it, the trial period came to an end. It was almost as if the product caused the issue to make me HAVE to buy CCleaner to get the issue resolved (which is a form of entrapment, and not legal in the United States). Today, I decided to reach out to several IT Tech friends on social media about this issue, and learned one of them had issues too. One of those IT friends works at the National Security Administration in MD. He had other issues with your product, and just decided to uninstall CCleaner. He spent an hour on the phone with me today, shedding light on some potential fixes. For CCleaner to ignore a potential customer during (or just after) a trial period of your product because they are not a current paying customer is surely NOT going to ever convince that person to want to purchase your product, not good customer service (product tech support) and again, sure seems like entrapment. Right now, I'd just like to have my laptop back to what it was before I ever tried your product. Adding to my concern is this article I just came across today (from August, 2021)... Windows 10 is warning users not to install CCleaner TechRadar Apparently, the problems noted in the article, etc. appear to still be an issue, and not fixed. I also came across this article (from July, 2020)... Microsoft now detects CCleaner as a Potentially Unwanted Application (bleepingcomputer.com).
This is close to the worst software inclusion ever. I have been experiencing this problem of my laptop constantly rebooting (when unattended) for months. For a while it got better but then whenever I ran the cleaner program (not the driver update), the problem started again. There is no fix because the time I ran the initial driver update (have only run it once) it did not create a restore point as their support claims it does. Essentially I see the only fix to this mess that CCleaner created is a complete reinstallation of Windows. I find that completely unacceptable but it seems that the messages here are that CCleaner are unable to provide a fix to the problem they singularly created for so many people. Whilst I find the rest of the software to be very useful, I will be rating CCleaner a "0" or "1" due to this major defect that they have not addressed
yeah BIFF same thing happened to me...... My Toughbook Panasonic Military Laptop CF-31 MK4 both are bricked. After being on CCleaner for thousands of years, I was hesitant to install CCLeaner on my Military Laptops, but after installing CCleaner updated all my drivers through Microsoft, I used their CCleaner New Update Driver Program ... said it needed to update 21 drivers, Wuuuuuut ? Seriously
So I opted to use that service after accepting the 14 day trial. It started updating all my 21 drivers I needed, after reset my Supervisor Password was changed. I know my password because I've been using the same password for 20 years, and I know I'm not stupid, my password doesn't work anymore so I know for 1,000 % fact that CCLeaner changed my Supervisor PWD. But CCleaner says no !!!! and after reading your issue regarding your computer being BRICKED. Man what a relief ... so I know I'm not lying or stupid. CCleaner has to believe me now because I have $2K worth of laptops just sitting here BRICKED, it's so upsetting to the point I'm trying to calm myself after these engineers are telling me that's impossible. Well you know in the computer world impossible can be possible. Not all software's are perfect in any which way.
It's upsetting ... my blood is boiling, I know my password and I know CCleaner is responsible for this problem they have with their UPDATE DRIVER program. I hope they fix it .... if they can't at least send me 2 BIOS Chips at $24.00 ea. and I'll fix it myself and replace the BIOS with a non password. Then I'll shut up and not bad mouth CCleaner for their software mistake. Coders aren't perfect.

Hi Lageeks, CCleaner could not help me at all. Whatever got into my desktop during the CCleaner driver update managed to get into my laptop because of my stupidity in using a flash drive between them in an attempt to fix the desktop. I had to take it into a computer repair shop and luckily I had a complete backup on a separate hard drive but it cost me near $200. The laptop was a hopeless case so I just switched it over to Linux.
wow $200 and CCLeaner didn't pay that to help you out .... all they did was just probably message you and give you hope or no hope at all. I can't believe it ... CCleaner is a good Cleaner but then again the money they make and they can't even at least cover half of your $200 dollars service fee to get it back working. Luck you, you got it fixed. Me ... I used a BIOS password and I found a fix .. I need to replace the BIOS chip and it costs $24 dollars on ebay ea. I need two .. but I'm hoping they will order it for me and send it to me to shut me up because .. I'll keep fighting for my knowledge of what happened to my laptops that cost $1K ea. Military Laptops. If it was just a plain jane laptop like a DELL or ASUS .. I'll let it slide .. but when it comes to these Military Laptops just sitting here BRICKED .. it's a different story. Good for you Rob you got it working but you had to shell out ..... sadly but we all learn a lesson from using CCLeaner !!!! ARRRGH so upsetting Glad to hear again .. Good Day
