Singh was born in a Sikh family in Calcutta, West Bengal and brought up in Burla, Orissa.[10] He completed his schooling at Guru Nanak Public School, Sambalpur. He received a Bachelor of Engineering in computer science engineering from Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College in Karnataka.[4] Then he moved to Bhubaneshwar to work at Infosys Technologies for five years. He did his MBA at Indian School of Business in Hyderabad. He was working as a Sr. Program Manager at Microsoft when he decided to become a full-time author.[11][12]
Singh's debut novel is based on a real-life incident when he met a girl, how his romance flourished and then how it came to an unfortunate end, before he could propose marriage to her.[2][5] After a six-month search, an editing team sent the manuscript to the publisher Srishti, who published the book.[2] The book was unveiled at a press conference in Chandigarh.[2][3] An audio version of the novel I Too Had a Love Story was also launched in mid-2011. After the release of his first book in 2008 ravinder singh books list has grown richer and richer.[13][2][14] This novel was also published in Kannada language, entitled Nannadu Ondu prema kathe.[2][15]
Comparatively, when looking at other contemporary authors, such as Amitava Ghosh or Jeet Thayil, there is a stark contrast in terms of literary merit and originality. These authors employ innovative narrative techniques, delve into complex social and political issues, and push the boundaries of conventional storytelling. In the case of Jeet Thayil, especially, you can see how well the author has managed to convey many thoughts and emotions even out of a semi-autobiographical tale in Narcopolis! I just loved that! Collectively, Ghosh and Thayil, even Adiga and Roy for that matter, stimulate critical thinking and engage readers on multiple levels, offering a deeper exploration of the human condition and societal dynamics. Ravinder Singh, on these grounds, fails miserably!
Like many others, you too are an engineer-turned author. Why did you choose this path?
I think everyone has a lot of stories to tell, but I guess for an engineer there is so much more. From the preparations to cracking the exams and then those years in college...is in itself a story. I did my engineering and then my MBA as well, and here I am, an author.
What inspires you to write each chapter?
Other authors and poets inspire me to write. I would just be sitting in the morning, sipping my cup of tea, reading a piece of poetry, and all of a sudden I feel inspired by the writing, regardless of the subject and language. I feel energised at that moment.
