Dogs used in the Iditarod are forced to run about 1,000 miles in some of the most gruelling conditions on Earth, often unable to stop even when they’re injured or ill. Some suffer from bleeding stomach ulcers or incur stress fractures and even die. Despite knowing about this abuse, The Wildbirch Hotel by Hyatt has signed on as a new race partner and sponsor.

|
Even when the race is over, the abuse doesn’t end. Many of the surviving dogs suffer lasting damage, including altered hearts and muscles, and damage to other vital organs. In the offseason, they’re often chained up outside in all weather conditions with nothing but inadequate plastic barrels or dilapidated wooden boxes for shelter.
No company should choose to support this cruelty. Please urge Hyatt to reconsider its future ties with the Iditarod.
