Why hidden editor?

Why is there a hidden editor area above the regular editor text area? Can it be used?

Niet. It is just above the regular body text editor (which is an iframe).

You can remove the hidden="true" attribute (the whole attribute not only the "true" value) in the inspector and you get this:

In $:/ControlPanel, Settings tab, you will find a setting for "Enable or disable the editor toolbar".

When you disable the toolbar, TiddlyWiki reverts to using the much simpler inline "textarea" control, rather than the compound "toolbar + iframe".

The hidden textarea is there so that we can copy the styles from it to the textarea we create inside the iframe. Otherwise, any style definitions in the main document are not visible within the iframe.
