Hi everyone,

some initial questions which arose by trying 'mediawiki unpluged' for
the first time.

Which of the following plugins are absolutely essential for mediawiki
unplugged?

1. AdaptorCommandsPlugin
2. AdaptorMacrosPlugin
3. DisableWikiLinksPlugin
4. ImportMediaWikiWizard
5. MediaWikiAdaptorPlugin
6. MediaWikiFormatterPlugin
7. MediaWikiTemplatePlugin
8. MultiColumnListView
9. PaginatedListView
10. settings

Also some content doesn't display, which seem to have to do with some
markers (like {{Quote|)

Compare for example these two pages:

http://tiddlywiki.org/wiki/Opening_Multiple_Tiddlers
http://aid1.tiddlyspot.com/#%5B%5BOpening%20Multiple%20Tiddlers%5D%5D

Is there a way to show all relevant content?

Also I wonder if and how MultiColunmListView and PaginatedListView
could be used on its own?

Thanks for any clarification!

I guess that would depend on what you're trying to achieve

A number of Nicolas's goals surround authorship of pages, automatic
syncing and posting back to a MediaWiki server.

These are pretty "core", I've built snap-offs of Wikipedia articles
which just use the above plugins, e.g.:

http://whatfettle.com/2009/09/verticals/MediaWikiDemo.html.zip

Note: this has to run from a file URI to pull-down pages from
en.wikipedia.com?index.php?title=AJAX .. etc.

I've not looked in much detail at these. They're only really required
if you to use the wizard, and automatic syncing, I'd say.

> 10. settings

Mainly around applying defaults for the wizard and setting the theme.

> 3. DisableWikiLinksPlugin

I think that's a matter of personal preference, and only applies to
TiddlyWiki format tiddlers. MediaWiki format tiddlers don't have
WikiLinks. I actually like WikiLinks!

I've also noticed issues with <!-- --> style comments.I'm sure Martin
and Nicolas would accept bug reports /fixes for their plugins.

I'll chat to Martin about my issues with my vertical, which
unfortunately contains copyrighted material, so I can't really share
it, yet.

I'm not sure I understand the issue. permalinks and permaviews work
fine for me with MediaWiki format tiddlers. Is that the problem?

They don't appear to have further dependencies, so why indeed not!

Thanks for your thorough reply and the minimal demo, Paul.

The ImportMediaWikiWizard didn't worked first (just endlessly
displayed the animated '.... importing tiddlers'), so I imported
manually by clicking links.

Later I added the url as a 'systemPackage' tagged tiddler and since
then I'm able to select the pre-defined feed, where it does display a
nice multi columned and paginated list of all available pages from a
MediaWiki with checkboxes.

However, it lacks the ability to select a certain range of pages, like
'added', 'changes' or 'differences', as for example Eric's
ImportTiddlers panel does.

Because for me the automatic syncing at intervals only displays error
massages like: 'conflicts found with ...' (and repeats a tiddler title
across the whole screen) and doesn't works for me (tested with
tiddlywiki.org and http://aid1.tiddlyspot.com from my drive)

Opening a tiddler manually and clicking on the 'sync' toolbar command
says:
'currently syncing via.. with..' - but if I compare it with the
updated page it actually never gets updated.
Also updating a tiddler manually via the backstage sync facility
fails.

Only checking a single tiddler within the ImportMediaWikiWizard a
tiddler finally does gets synchronized with an updated page on the
server. (tested with an updated page on tiddlywiki.org)

So,sadly, I'm still far from understanding how automatic synchronizing
works - not to talk about updating in the opposite direction... !?!

Some questions about the lists in SideBarTabs of 'mediawiki
unplugged':

There is a TabOtherPages with a <<list otherpages>> macro (which
is defined by MediaWikiFormatterPlugin) and displays a list of
tiddlers with titles starting with ':Category:..', 'Category:..',
'Dev:..', 'Help:..', 'MediaWiki:..', 'Meta:..', 'Project:..',
'Question:..', 'Special:..', 'User:..'

... which appeared like the equivalent of tags to me, however,
TabTags only lists those starting with 'Category:..' and regular
TiddlyWiki tags. Therefore I don't understand what's the underlying
system and difference between tags and 'otherpages' (which also don't
get displayed under the TabAll, despite not being tagged with
'excludeLists')?

Then there is a TabUpdated which might be defined by the
AdaptorMacrosPlugin, however it doesn't seems to work or show anything
(as with the tested updated page on tiddlywiki.org).

What I'm missing in all of this?

Permalinks work fine, it's just that mediawiki's own syntax for
blockquotes isn't recognized by 'mediawiki unplugged' and displays
none of the block quoted content (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
Template:Quote).

Sorry for this long post and my many questions, but my ignorance
appears to be endless when it comes to mediawiki and unplugged.

Regards..

To summarize again:

I tried to import from http://tiddlywiki.org. But run into the
following problems I'm seeking assistance for:

# Synchronization seems not to work when any article has changed on
tiddlywiki.org
# Synchronization to update an articel on tiddlywiki.org doesn't seem
to work
# Blockquoted content in a mediawiki is not displayed in
mediawikiunplugged

So unless I misunderstand mediawikiunplugged completely - it simply
doesn't work!

Please see what I mean by testing my attempt of an unplugged
tiddlywiki.org here:

http://aid1.tiddlyspot.com/

Any help would be appreciated!

That's a little harsh given a number of us have been using it, but
yes. I think there are issues around synchronisation from Nicolas's
plugin which still need work. Hopefully Nicolas or someone else from
Globant can help investigate.

There are also known issues with some of the more advanced MediaWiki
wikitext features which I think Martin is aware of, but don't have
non-trivial solutions. I encountered problems with templates on a
number of Wikipedia pages.

That looks fairly hopeful!

> Any help would be appreciated!

Surprisingly we've not been using MediaWikiUnplugged on
TiddlyWiki.org. Martin warns that the dev namespace may be an issue
with tiddlywiki.org. I'll prod Martin and FND into taking a look!

I'd also like to import TiddlyWiki.org, and may help migrate from
MediaWiki to TiddlyWeb, which I'm guessing is an aspiration long term.
