Hi guys,

(I found my message was not posted as expected, so posted it again. Could be duplicated.)

Many years ago I used ExportTiddlersPlugin quite a lot in order to send modified tiddlers between office and home back and forth. Later I used Google Drive or Dropbox as the main sync mechanism.

I'm now working in an restricted company that I couldn't use Dropbox any longer so I tried to go back to ExportTiddlersPlugin as I did in the old days. But I found that it doesn't work as expected, prompting the error message (actually I have Timimi onboarded so 'saving' is definitely not the underlying problem):

It's not possible to save changes. Possible reasons include: - your browser doesn't support saving (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari and Opera all work if properly configured) - the pathname to your TiddlyWiki file contains illegal characters - the TiddlyWiki HTML file has been moved or renamed

Can you guys point me the correct way around or another export mechanism?

Many thanks!

Pengju

Hello Pengju,

have you tried TiddlerInFilePlugin? If it doesn't work for you, could you specify which saver do you use? I guess, ExportTiddlersPlugin doesn't work not because you don't have an access to Dropbox, but because you're using a different saver.

On the sync side, does your company forbid any software that can be used for syncing files, like SyncThing (it doesn't use proprietary cloud, but rather syncs devices directly)? Sounds like you're working around the company policy, but maybe it can be adjusted?

Best regards,
Yakov

Hi Yakov,

I recall what TiddlerInFilePlugin is since I modified one plugin based on your DarkModePlugin where TiddlerInFilePlugin is used as a helper tool. No, TiddlerInFilePlugin doesn't fit in my use scenario:

1. I add or update multiple tiddlers at home.
2. I want to export the new/updated tiddlers into a separate small html file.
3. I send the small html file to my company email address.
4. On my company work station, I import from the small html file to my TWC.

Back to your question about my saver: I'm using Timimi as my saver (for my Firefox). But apparently, ExportTiddlersPlugin just doesn't work. Is it the case that Timimi and ExportTiddlersPlugin are not compatible with each other? I'm not a html/js expert so I'm not able to figure it out by myself.

The policy of my company just blocks any online storage/syncup services including Dropbox, GitHub (and other git remote host services like Assembla), etc.

Hi, Pegju
I use Timimi + Firefox + ExportTiddlersPlugin, so I can share my experience hoping it helps:
  • Export with TW core is problematic because of versions and customization differences if I want to open it as it is, but ok for import from it.
  • Export without core works.
  • Tiddlers titles have to be camel case (no space...) to be taken into account when filtered on "open" tiddlers.
  • Probably without incidence: Linux system.
