I've tried the suggested only way of upgrading. I have 2 TiddlyWikis that are version. 5.0.8. I couldn't upgrade before either so I left them.

They're presently giving me a problem with throwing up a warning every time I try to shut the windows down or click away that I'm leaving the page with unsaved data. Which I'm not. I've repeatedly saved and re-uploaded them just to make sure.

I'd like, for the sake of my web visitors, to not have that nag screen every time they try to leave the page. I thought upgrading might help but the upgrade doesn't work. I get no body or menu at all, just the icons on the right side.

Someone please have a look if this interests you.

Please explain more. I downloaded one of yours and an empty TW5. I dropped your downloaded file on the empty TW5 and it seemed to work.

I don't know what else I can say. I'm using Firefox. I also tried this in Chrome and got the same result. I went to the TiddlyWiki upgrade page at http://tiddlywiki.com/upgrade.html, dropped my wiki on it, hit the Upgrade button and saved/downloaded the file. But there's nothing there except the top of the sidebar menu. The body and the menu I put in is gone.

Then I tried the other method of dropping my wiki on an empty TW5 and saving it. And I still got nothing except the empty TW5. It seems like I must be missing a step but I don't know what.

Thanks. I got it. I'd missed the part where I have to scroll down the page of tiddlers and click Import.

Hi JL_B

Thanks. I got it. I'd missed the part where I have to scroll down the page of tiddlers and click Import.

It sounds like you are not upgrading in the recommended way by visiting tiddlywiki.com/upgrade.html and dropping in your existing wiki.

Upgrading by importing your content into empty.html will not upgrade your plugins.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

That's because that method didn't work for me. And I tried it several times.

Hi JL

Can you describe the steps you took, what you expected to happen and what did happen to help me debug things so it doesn't trip up anyone else?

Many thanks

Jeremy

Sigh. There's only one thing to do on each page. I went to the upgrade page. I dragged my TW5 onto it. It flipped to the next window and I downloaded it.

Thanks for your patience. I was replying on a phone and couldn't see your original post.

Turning to the original problem you reported:

They're presently giving me a problem with throwing up a warning every time I try to shut the windows down or click away that I'm leaving the page with unsaved data. Which I'm not. I've repeatedly saved and re-uploaded them just to make sure.

The feature whereby the user is prompted when closing the window with unsaved changes is intended to help guard against data loss. The wiki is only marked as "dirty" if significant tiddlers are modified; system tiddlers that are created as part of TiddlyWiki's normal operation when (eg) switching tabs do not trigger the dirty state.

Can you give me some examples of actions that trigger the warning when trying to close the window? It's possible that the dirty state is being triggered inadvertently.

I went to the TiddlyWiki upgrade page athttp://tiddlywiki.com/upgrade.html, dropped my wiki on it, hit the Upgrade button and saved/downloaded the file. But there's nothing there except the top of the sidebar menu. The body and the menu I put in is gone.

With TiddlyWiki changing rapidly during the beta there have been several changes that can trip up an upgrade to the latest version.

The thing that I still don't understand is why you got different results upgrading with empty.html vs. upgrade.html. Do you perhaps still have copies of the original wikis before the upgrade so that I can experiment?

The control panel doesn't work on this wiki because the tiddler $:/ControlPanel has been overwritten. You can fix it by deleting that tiddler so that the original, shadow definition is reinstated.

Best wishes

Jeremy

I updated the wikis by using an empty wiki. They're all fine now.

The warning to save unsaved changes (when there weren't any) has gone away now. So upgrading to the latest version did help.

Jeremy, here's one to experiment with, as requested.
