Most of the times I want to have my tiddlers arranged in a certain order. I couldn't think of anyhing better than to keep editing DefaultTiddlers or to carefully close and reopen them so they are arranged. Does anyone have a better workflow? I wish I could just drag a tiddler by it's title...

Hi RA

You can set $:/DefaultTiddlers to "[list[$:/StoryList]]", which will cause TiddlyWiki to startup with the previous story sequence.

The plan is also to make the tiddlers in the story list draggable.

Best wishes

Jeremy

In order for the story to survive a restart (not only page refresh), I had to remove a line from tiddlywiki.info "doNotSave" section:

    "doNotSave": [
        "$:/StoryList",

Cheers.
Looking forward to draggable tiddlers.

Good point. I've adjust the docs to stop suggesting suppressing saving for the storylist:

Many thanks,

Jeremy

Cheers.

Jeremy,

Working with a fresh 5.0.8. My $:/StoryList remains empty. Also,  Isee that the "doNotSave" section is gone from widdlywiki.info. Something got reworked? I couldn't find a reference to it in ReleaseNotes...

Some details that could be relevant:
I am using node.js but without npm. Instead, checking out the latest from GitHub. So, I initialized a new TW like this:
* cp editions/tw5.com-server ../mywiki
*  vi ../mywiki/tiddlywiki.info - remove the section
    "includeWikis": [
        "../tw5.com"
    ]

Should probably clarify: I did `npm install -g tiddlywiki` before, with TW 5.0.7.
Now, I decided to start over so I checked out 5.0.9-pre to a different location and am using serve.sh to start my wiki...

Hi RA

First, it is recommended to use editions/server as a template for your own wikis, not editions/tw5.com-server.

Secondly, the doNotSave section of tiddlywiki.info has been replaced by this filter expression:

You can hack the expression to remove the storylist, but you'll have to take care with future core upgrades that may change this filter.

Best wishes

Jeremy

Well, something is broken because $:/StoryList doesn't get saved in 5.0.8.

I started the same wiki under 5.0.7, and StoryList gets saved without any changes on my part.
Also, node.js output is full of
syncer: Queuing up sync task with type: save title: $:/StoryList
syncer: Dispatching 'save' task: $:/StoryList
FileSystem: Saved file d:\cloud\Copy\tw5\content\00507\tiddlers/$__StoryList.tid

But in 5.0.8 there is none of that.

Am I missing something? I checked the SyncFilter (shadow), looks like it should be remembering my tiddlers.

 Sorry Jeremy, I misunderstood what you are saying. I should hack SyncFilter if I want the story saved.

But why hack it if I can just create the SyncFilter.tid in my wiki? Wouldn't that work to override the default?

Yes, sorry I was unclear. By "hack" I meant "override the shadow tiddler with your own content".  But you should be prepared for things to go wonky if a subsequent update to TW5 changes the base sync filter.

Best wishes

Yes, that's why I eventually decided in favor of "git pull" as opposed to "npm update" to keep my copy up to date - to be prepared. I'm not a programmer but I'm starting to love git. "git log" and "git show" are my new best friends!

One more question:

By "changes the base sync filter" you simply mean the shadow filter "$:/config/SyncFilter" might change, right? So I should be ok as long as I keep an eye on it.
Or do you mean some more radical changes, like for example this switch from doNotSave to SyncFilter in 5.0.8?

One more thing:

ControlPanel's "retain story ordering" button should be taking care of this, in addition to setting DefaultTiddlers to "[list[$:/StoryList]]". Otherwise all it's doing it presenting the user with an empty story at every refresh.

I meant keeping track of changes to $:/config/SyncFilter. Hopefully there'll be fewer and fewer radical changes.

The plan is to add a way for tiddler filters to include other tiddler filters, so that we can have a couple of user defined clauses to allow customisation without having to overwrite the main filter.

Best wishes

Jeremy

Hello,
Because I work a lot with stories, I miss a lot the function Eric`s rearrangeTiddlers plugin brought to TWClassic (http://tiddlytools.com/#RearrangeTiddlersPlugin).
How close is the realisation of the plan to make tiddlers draggable?
Is there a plugin fulfillling this purpose so far?

Best greetings Jan

I am also interested if we can rearrange tiddlers by dragging/dropping now.

Hi all,
I’m also curious about this too. It’s quite useful. The more I use TiddlyWiki the more I miss this funcionality.

@Jeremy
Glad to know it’s being considered for inclusion.

Best wishes,
Webcorerad

Hi Webcorerad.
I made a workaround on called rearrange on slidesnstories.tiddlyspot.com
Where you can reorder a story by reordering a list There is one instance in the sidebar and one in the left menu.

Cheers Jan
