So I have a bad habit of crashing or doing things that crash TiddlyWiki.
I used TW Classic as an image browser for a few minutes until I crashed it years ago as an example.

Right now I have about 250 images in my TW5 file and it is running well.
Typically LARGE files kill TW so I took a rather clean TW5 and added a single large PDF file about 50MB.

Boom Goes the Dynamite and it crashed the browser.
Funny enough it did launch the PDF Viewer in the TW so presumably a smaller PDF would have been fine.
I was not surprised by the crash and it led me to thinking about solutions.
Is there a way to have TW save files locally and link to the file for Really Big Files?
You could set the file size limit somewhere in the TW.
That way you can't accidentally add a file that crashes your TW.

I know you can do a link to the file:BIGFILE.pdf.
On my Windoze PC it links to files that are in the local folder using the above example.

So what have you done by accident OR on purpose that broke TW?
How could you solve that break?

Thanks again everyone.

Hi Rich,

So I have a bad habit of crashing or doing things that crash TiddlyWiki.

^^

How could you solve that break?

I you're planning on having that much / big content...
skip the single file paradigm and ask yourself: What's the use?

Best wishes, Tobias.

It seems to me you did not crash TiddlyWiki, you crashed the browser. No matter what I would not be surprised.

Birthe is correct I crashed the browser.

When I crashed my browser years ago I was trying to use TW Classic as a Photo Gallery.
After a certain size my TW Classic would slow the browser down then it churns it to a halt.
Eventually it crashed the browser every time and the TW Classic became unstable to use.

Thanks Tobias for the earlier solution to drag the TW5 into a new TW5 and select the content to move over.
That way if I do create an unstable TW5 I can rescue data I might need.
Also using /#:safe for the safe mode will be very cool.

This time trying to use TW5 as a 'Book Shelf' with the BIG PDF's where TW handles comments and details on the books.
Also I am trying to find faster solutions to get data into TW5 and avoid making the browser mad / crash.
I can easily link each file book.pdf except that can be time consuming if you have a lot of files.

At what Tiddler Size or File Size do you switch from Single TW5 to Individual Tiddlers(I have not done an Individual Tiddler type of TW yet)?

Thanks everyone for all the help.

I've found PDF viewing to be particularly buggy in both Firefox and Chrome, but much better in Safari. In fact, on Safari you can use PDFs as images and everything works just as smoothly as with SVGs.

I wouldn't recommend embedding PDFs in the standalone TiddlyWiki. Much better to use them as external images via the _canonical_uri field.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

Thanks Jeremy.
I will put that on my list to start creating a stand alone TW.
