I remember seeing that some people had said that PMario's File Backups worked well with Firefox on Android. I tried it but can't get it to work, so I wondered if anyone here could help me out?

My wiki is in the downloads folder (and named "mywiki.html", but when I open it in Firefox the URL is "file:///data/user/0/org.mozilla.firefox/cache/contentUri/<a bunch of numbers and letters>".

When I click save I get a copy of the wiki named "<a different bunch of numbers and letters>". I tried it again in Brave (without File Backups of course) and got the same behaviour. I've installed File Backups in Firefox but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi si,

Sorry for the late reply.

Those are the steps, that I used (... kind of)

 - download empty.html

 - You need to be fast!!
   - There will be a browser notification at the bottom of the screen, which says: "empty.html saved ..... Open"
 - Click the Open button

 - The file should be file:///storage/emulated/0/Download/empty.html

But you probably want to rename it. Right?

 - Select browser URL
 - rename file:///storage/emulated/0/Download/empty.html to eg:
                file:///storage/emulated/0/Download/wikis/notes.html
 - FF will show an error page
   - __Don't__ close this tab

 - Open your File Manager App
 - Open the Downloads folder
 - rename empty.html to eg: notes.html
 - create a new wikis folder
 - move notes.html to the wikis folder

Back to FireFox.

 - Click the "Retry button" form the error page
 - TW should load now.

 - Open the Browser : Page menu
 - Select "Pin to top Sites"

So it will be easier to find it, if you "lost" the link.

hhhmmmmmm ... It's more complicated as I'm remembering it. ... Video should follow, once I manage to get the recorder app running.

have fun!

Due to network changes, I finally had to upgrade my Android.

It appears that is is no longer possible to install file-backups on FF for Android. When you search for file-backups in the repository,  FF shows you the extension, but won't let you install. It offers you instead a chance to look at a list of extensions that are available for FF for Android. And, if you try to install a downloaded file, Android doesn't recognize the xpi file.

I'm wondering if there is some internal change that could be done to File-backups that would tell Mozilla that it's ok for use on Android? I'm guessing that Android added a new internal flag of some sort.

In general, the whole Android arena has become more restricted. As far as I could tell, you can't install any extensions on Chrome for Android, and the two Chromium-based browsers I tried also provided no backdoor for installing BJ's tiddler-saver extension. Also, on Chrome, when using the download saver, it mangles the entire file name now, adding on prefix text.

Thanks!

That's right. It is possible to "sideload" the plugin for testing, BUT it's _not_ possible to save the wiki, since the needed "extension functions" are not implemented in the browser yet.
I'm tracking the bug at bugzilla. As soon as the functions land in the browser I'll try to make it work again!!

That's right. See above!

It's not Android, it needs to be implemented in the browser.
