Just to be clear, you tried to drag the link that's labelled "$:/plugins/tiddlywiki/markdown"? If you're doing it correctly, you'll see a green bar at the top of the TiddlyWiki page before you release the drag.

If you're still having problems you can instead install the plugin via the plugin library - go to the "Plugins" tab of the control panel.
