Hi i have been using TWC for years but am running into compatibility problems.

I am trying to use TW5 but frnkaly i find the design much less useful than twc. is there a way to make T@5 to look and feel like classic ?

thanks!

Roland,

Take a look at:

It's a bit old, it may need some work.

Cheers,

Roland,

I know how you feel changing from TWC to TW5 but I can assure you from my own experience this feeling passes. TW5 is much more feature rich in the User Interface customisation as built, that is without installing plugins, however there are plugins that present whole new ways at looking at tiddlers, there is much more customisation and perhaps 30% of TWC plugins have equivalents in the core now.

If you want help in this transition pick a use case from your existing TWC and ask the community how they would do it in TW5.

Regards
Tony

Hi Roland,

I agree with Tony. Many of us have been where you are now.  I got a kick in the back though, as most of my tiddlywikies were on a Danish tiddlyspace that became unworkable after an upgrade. (A blessing in disguise). Your luck will be that there are now so many examples and plugins to look at and get ideas from.

Alphonso mentioned my old Tiddlywiki http://bc.classic.tiddlyspot.com/ . Thanks Alphonso.
I would advise against it though - and never used it myself. The most important thing is to get to know the new version look at the plugins and the examples to get an idea how you can make your new wiki work for you and your material.

https://dynalist.io/d/zUP-nIWu2FFoXH-oM7L7d9DM is where to look for the goodies.

Getting to know the new version, find how you could structure your tiddlers, find the plugins etc, that you will need. Get your tiddlers into the new TW. When you have done that, you will also be able to change the looks, but really that is not the most important part - and I think you will have other wishes at that time ;-)

Time consuming, yes absolutely, but very worth it if you ask me. When I started I would absolutely not have said so, but well, it is so good and really in many ways easier to use.

Ask in this group and get help.

All the best for your transition,

Birthe

I'm sorry to hear that, I think it's the first TW5 I've encountered that doesn't show as pillarboxed on normal PC monitor. Both of the other TiddlyWiki's you linked have rather sever pillarboxing making them effectively unusable on a normal widescreen monitor.

Sorry to jump in, but are you referring to this sort of thing:

That’s the default configuration whereby the story river has a fixed width and the sidebar takes up the remaining width.

There is another mode where the sidebar has a fixed width, and the story river expands to fill the available space:

To enable it, go to the control panel, to the “Appearance” tab, then the “Theme Tweaks” tab beneath that, and locate the first setting “Sidebar layout” and set it to “Fluid story, fixed sidebar”.

Best wishes

Jeremy

Thanks, I wonder why it seems to be usually turned off on most examples I've seen. (I'm assuming that with it on it's responsive and properly adapts to all screen sizes)
