Hello all,

Just wanted to announce that the Personal TW collection management service called Maarfapad has been updated to version 0.5.0 with features some of you might find useful. I've set up a blog page for you to explore the supporting plugin (note it only works when the wiki is hosted within Maarfapad's domain.).

There was previously a restriction for beta testing, but that has now been lifted. All are welcome. Please let me know if you find anything weird.

Also, many of you had great suggestions for the future of Maarfapad. This project was originally intended to be a way to introduce TW to a wide audience. I have a lot of experiments to run to see what could possibly turn this into a self sustaining project and gain a wider following. The ultimate aim is to make TW as well known as WordPress or Joomla.

Thank you to all the beta testers. Please update your plugins via this link https://abesamma.github.io/maarfapad-blog/index.html. I thank you deeply 🙇

Aluta continua.

Bonus: It's a neat progressive web app and chrome will automatically prompt you to install it. Feels so good to be rid of the playstore/app store!

NOTICE: there was a small problem with saving your wiki a few minutes ago. It has now been rectified. Apologies.

A demonstration of Maarfapad in action: preventing overwrites with old data.

This feature is very reliable in Chrome. There is a persistent bug in Firefox that causes this to shutdown after a while.

Abraham,

I will be testing this further but I looks good so far, very professional. I see this being a great service especially for regular users who do not have access to their own hosting.

Will you be sharing the backend setup so others can implement a similar system and share back their own developments?

The answer to this question may affect the degree to which I investigate your solution since the value to me differs. I would not want to compete providing such a service but I do want to "publish" utility wikis, and a variation of your approach would be helpful. I would however respect your desire to recover costs, even turn a profit providing such a hosting service.

Keep in mind there is a substantial difference between members of the community and end users who may use such an online tiddlywiki.

Regards
Tony

Abraham, thank you for sharing!!!

I'm not 100% sure I understand what it is you've created though. Is it a server service where people can host their TWs, similar to TiddlySpot? If it is, in what way does it compare? (There is absolutely no skepticism in me asking this, I just want to understand.)

Some time ago I put up http://setup.tiddlyspot.com/ intended to tive an overview of the various server, saving, etc alternatives. It would be valuable if you could provide info for your creation with regards to these criteira:

If you're on that site and click on the criteria you'll see a brief explanation respectively. Also, if you have other info that doesn't fit in the criteria this can be seen when one clicks of the name of the "setup".

Again, thank you for sharing stuff!

Hi Tony,

I am really glad you find this interesting. I have been working on this project for a pretty long time. Given it's my first attempt at fullstack development, your comments are really appreciated.

Concerning the matter of sharing the backend setup, I haven't yet decided HOW it will be licensed for sharing, but share it I will. We'll see in due time. I think all code should be shared, for the sake of transparency I believe. Maybe by v1.0 atleast, just so I can figure out most of the kinks so nobody else has to 😅

Concerning the difference in value, yes I have been acutely aware of this ever since the first beta testers started emailing me about this. I will continue to experiment though to see if I cannot sway your hearts eventually 😉

Hi Mat,

As they say, sharing is caring! :-)

With regards to what I've created, it is a server service designed to manage a collection of wikis (currently limited to 2 per account only for now).

It allows you to save your wikis to the server, or deselect that option in favour of any other saver you have (so you can use noteself inside Maarfapad for example if that is what you want).

It works as a PWA, so you can install it on your android phone as you would an app and it will work just as well (with offline support).

It also keeps an eye on your wikis to alert you whether you if you're about to overwrite the most recent revision of your wiki with an older one that you may have modified offline. This change feed feature isn't available in other services I think.

So using your criteria:

AutoBackup: NO but working on it

Browser: ALL browsers, best in Chrome

Data storage: Cloud and Browser cache (can be disabled on the fly without disabling the plugin)

Dependencies: External Service

Encryption: TW encryption

File or Folder: File

Format: HTML

Mobile First: YES

Muti-user: NO, purely private

OS: ANY

Portable: NO

Version: NO

Works-offline: Oh YES!

Unlike TiddlySpot, I can't send a link to my wiki and have another user view it. Is the intent of Maarfapad to be a private wiki only?

Nope. sharing wikis was the number one suggested feature. After all, knowledge is social, right? I want to get the design just right so we can all enjoy and gain from sharing wikis via Maarfapad.

Abraham, I have now updated http://setup.tiddlyspot.com/ with your data about Maarfapad. Please make sure everything is correct and feel free to add stuff (here) that you want me to add. Again, the idea is to make anyone looking for a "setup" understand what your creation fulfills in contrast to the other ones.

Thank you for creating stuff!

Abraham:

For your information:

I've started using this and testing it in the ways that I generally use my TW5 files.

I'll respond further when I have any comments that are worth making.

So, far ... So good!

Thaks for sharing!!
