I'm trying to change the font of Japanese text in TiddlyWiki. I tried
using a style sheet and it works on all the text except for the
Japanese text.

my style sheet:

.fontVerdana{
font-family: verdana;
}

my text:

{{fontVerdana{わたしは}}}

Actually the font that Google groups uses is simple and similar to what
I want. The default font that TiddlyWiki uses for Japanese text is a
little hard to read.

Thanks!

In the Firefox Advanced Font Options, I choose the font (and size) for
different Unicode code pages, allowing me to decide what font a foreign
character set is displayed in. That might resolve the issue for your
own browsing, anyway.

This will happen if the font you select doesn't have those particular
characters (or if the font designer chose to include "standard" glyphs
for those characters rather than making them work in with the look of
the rest of the font).

I guess Verdana doesn't cover the Japanese sections of Unicode.

In Windows you can check your fonts for specific character sets with
the Character Map (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
Character Map.

In Character Map, seect Verdana in the drop down box at the top, then
check "Advanced view", and choose "Group by: Unicode subrange". That
pops up a little list window where you can check if Verdana has
characters for various character sets (it doesn't).

The Arial Unicode MS font is an example of a font with a lot of
unicode chars defined.. with Character Map you can browse through
other fonts and see if any have the characters you like.

Cheers

Thank you so much Daniel! That information is extremely useful to me
for now and future projects. I think I can find a font that works now.

For those who need to do the same:
The Japanese font that looks simple and seems to be the standard is
"arial,sans-serif"
