Can anyone help ? I don't know where to start....

I want to create a very simple directory using TW

I need...

1. No right hand column except for the seach box preferably on the
left hand side
2. No edit/done/ etc (except close) view over http. There will be
sensitive info that I don't want anybody to see.
4. I'd like to edit my directory over the web in my lunch hour.

Thats it simple... I hope it is simple to achieve

Thanks in advance

Dave in a hot and muggy London !

Sounds like the Presentation style TW might suit your needs.

What kind of directory is that?

The easiest way here might be to use Jon's BackstageSidebarPlugin:
http://groups.google.com/group/TiddlyWikiDev/t/424e2478873ef0ba

Then edit the MainMenu shadow tiddler and add the <<search>> macro.

You'd have to create a ReadOnly- or Web-theme (templates) for that. I'm
afraid I can't walk you through that at the moment, but there should be
information about it in the group archives. If you have any questions,
please feel free to start a thread requesting assistance.

Since you're in London, you might be interested to meet the Osmosoft
gang - our monthly Show'n'Tell event might be a good opportunity for this:

Drop me a mail if you're interested.

@Londoner:

I wish I were able to help you with that, but guess I can't.
However, once you get there, I'll be glad to see you share your
insights on how you did it... step-by-step wise. That would be great.

For the sidebar - as a quick, yet not secure hack - put something like
that into your StyleSheet shadow tiddler:

#displayArea {margin:1em 1em 0em 14em;}
#sidebar{display:none};

You can then use Eric Shulman's InstantBookmarklets on http://www.tiddlytools.com
in your browser to show/hide the sidebar (you might need to modify the
margins in his code snippet, so that the sidebar doesn't overlay the
content area). However, ANY other visitor who knows how to use Eric's
InstantBookmarklets, will be able to access your sidebar. Besides,
"save as" and look into your tw through a text editor will do the
trick as well. Franky, I think tiddlywiki is not right for sensitive
information, especially when you are not able to set up the server
securely ...to make sure it's only you who has access + I wouldn't
know an easy way for you to do that.
