Hello everyone, delurking for a first post here...

I tinkered a little with TWC some years back, followed the development of TW5 with great interest during the fall of last year, and since the release of 5.1.7 I have been using TW5 with great enthusiasm. TiddlyWiki has proven to be extremely useful, and since I sometimes have found it hard to wrap my head around its inner workings, it has always been good knowing that one can turn to the TW community for help and examples.

Back in January I found the MagicTabs Plugins by Alberto Molina (http://magictabs.tiddlyspot.com/), and I would very much like to use at least parts of them for a TiddlyWiki project of mine... But the tiddlyspot page has seemingly not been updated for the last five months, and still says the plugins are "a work in progress (beta software)", which makes me wonder if these plugins are still in development or if they have been abandoned?? @Alberto? Or does anyone else know?

And if the plugins ARE abandoned, my related questions would be: could I use what is already there and tailor it to suit my needs, and what would then be the proper way of crediting Alberto? (Of course, giving credit where credit is due, but I'm not a developer and hence very unsure about proper protocol in a case like this...)

Regards
//Anders

Sadly it seems to be abandoned.

Alberto did a great job, and it is very sad to see that it is not under active development. Anyway, have you tried it? I think is should work with the latest version of TW

I have tried it, and it is indeed a _great_ piece of work, that stands solidly on its own. As far as I can tell the latest iteration of the "Common Plugin" still works in TW 5.1.9...

What felt slightly irking when I tried it out more thoroughly early this spring was (for the purposes of my project) that small parts of it felt "unfinished", parts of it I didn't need, and I found myself tinkering a little too much with layout and details to feel comfortable with all the liberties I was taking. (Hence my rather brazen follow-up question about the possibilities of adapting what is there...)

People adopt and adapt abandoned tiddlywiki projects all the time. I myself would love to see magic tabs resumed.

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the inconvenience about the BottomTabs / MagicTabs plugin.

I'm actively trying to finish my PhD thesis. It's the reason why I have not been involved in TW for several months. I definitely plan to resume and finish the plugins, but I've no time now.

If anyone wants to reuse that work and adapt it, there's absolutely no problem. It's the way I think TW community should work.

Regards,

Alberto

Hi, Alberto.

No worries; after all, life and work have higher priority than side-projects.

I have continued tinkering, and will hopefully manage to cobble together a version that suits my needs.  :-)

Hi Anders,

This is really an interesting project!
Please post your final modifications if you can.

Thanks!

Is this still being developed? I discovered your BottomTabs, I thought it would be a fine use for a Genealogy notebook I was updating from TWC. I was able to, with my very limited skills, to expand the person input screen; adding extra fields I needed for my records.

I then discovered MagicTabs, I liked the potential flexibility. Though BottomTabs still has one advantage, it recognizes the "$:/" titles. My files have several elements, such things as children, spouses, parents, occupations, etc. In a nutshell there is a potential for a lot of clutter. With BottomTabs I can title those elements with "$:/" the rest of the title being more organizational and using a caption field to keep the visual link readable which helps with on spot lookups.

( on a side-note, I do have dedicated genealogy program. Yet TiddlyWiki with TiddlySnip/TiddlyClip I find it a lot easier to do research. Also the portability factor is a good thing too. )

Hi Chris,
I made some Tabs for the bottom called "MetaTabs". They are a little easier to understand than MetaTabs, so that you can customize them to fit your needs.
You can download them at slidesnstories.tiddlyspot.com
