The XLSX plugin is an excellent tool for creating tiddlers based on rows of a sheet in a workbook (either Excel or Google sheets downloaded as xlsx). The tiddlers each get fields based on the columns of the sheet. If you've never played with it, check it out.

I've just discovered the "By Column" mode which should take the first row of the sheet and use the labels as names of the fields, populating each tiddler with the value of the cell in that row.

However, I can't quite get it to work -- the import just sits there and never actually imports...See http://xlsx-import-by-column.tiddlyspot.com/ for a demo (which, for what's it worth, links to a google sheet that demonstates the ability to use =importhtml() google sheets command to import any table in any page in wikipedia...)

Any help, much appreciated!

thanks,

//steve.

Hi Steve,

I did two things to get it to work. I'm not sure if the first was essential, but I think it was.

First I turned all the formulae into actual text and numbers, including the headers.

Second, I changed the "name" field into "title". Tiddlers have to have a title, so if none of your columns are "title", then there is no place to hang your data.

I only got four of the fields, and, in review, I see that several of the columns have spaces in them. So you will have to go back and change the double-word titles to single words or double words with underscores. Tiddler fields can not have spaces in them.

There is probably other tweaking that needs to happen. In some cases the translated formulae gave year ranges, for instance.

Good luck!
