Can I make the sidebar hidden when I open the wiki? If it is possible, how. When I set the "hide" parameter, then when I save, I have to open the sidebar and the state again changes again. It turns out a vicious circle.

AFAIK, the state of the sidebar (open/closed) is saved each time you save your wiki.

So, if the last thing you do is edit a tiddler (any tiddler), close the sidebar, then save the tiddler (even if you made no changes to the tiddler), when you next load your tiddlywiki you should see the sidebar closed.

Hi Sergey,

Most important: Backup! Backup!Backup! Backup!Backup! Backup!Backup! Backup!

You could use a little (hacky) trick.

The core/save/all tiddler excludes tiddlers named: $:/state/popup   see: -[prefix[$:/state/popup/]]

It's tricky to mess with this tiddler. If you make an error, you end up with a corrupted TW file, or no file at all! That's why we change the sidebar button. ...

You can open the sidebar-button: http://tiddlywiki.com/#%24%3A%2Fcore%2Fui%2FTopBar%2Fmenu  and change the name of the state tiddler from

$:/state/sidebar -->  $:/state/popup/sidebar

Since this is only a name it should make no difference, except the tiddler is not saved anymore. Just define the new state once by hand and you should be good to go.

I didn't test it. ... Just an idea.

have fun!

Just thought about it. You don't need a new tiddler.
Just define the "default" value. see: http://tiddlywiki.com/#RevealWidget .. It will define the default it the tiddler doesn't exist.

Hi Sergey,

Apart from the solutions previously posted, I recently came across one of Tobias Beer's plugins that does just that.

Hi Altug,

Thanks for the links. For the decision and discussion. I'm sure that the documentation for beginners should open with tiddlers without a sidebar. And only after a while the beginner should understand its necessity. It's the same when I make a wiki with content for a different audience. For those who first get acquainted with the design Tiddlywiki must realize the need for a menu, because Tiddlywiki are primarily hypertext, where each page is itself a menu. Of course, that the sidebar is the essence of Tiddliwiki. But beginners are more comfortable when at the beginning - a minimum of information for orientation in an unfamiliar place! Often experts forget when they were beginners.

Thank you, Mat! It's a useful thing. It is necessary to think how to use!
