Browse Widget question

I'm wondering if it's possible to use the browse widget to select a file, but instead of importing that file into the TW, I would like to extract the filename and path to be used for creating links and putting into fields of my choosing. I'd like this to be independent of file type (i.e., could be used for text, image, whatever).

I've found a discussion here https://groups.google.com/g/tiddlywiki/c/GG3dqXkQWTw/m/yq9HBdOuBwAJ, but I didn't follow it completely so I'm not sure if it answers my question or not.

I'd really like to use the browse widget instead of drag and drop because I want to be able to make this TW as easy as possible to use for my wife. This is for a TW to organize our family photos.

The photos reside in a folder below my single file TW. Ideally, I would like to use relative links.

I don't think any web browser will allow any web page to know anything about a file system.

Pretty sure the best solution involves setting up an iframe that displays directories/files, and from there right-click on files and "copy link address", which can then be pasted in some tiddler's text or other field directly or indirectly via a text widget.

A tiddler for displaying the directories and files would have an iframe that looks something like this:

<iframe src="file:///media/removable/SD%20Card/" title="description" height="500" width="400">

With whatever "file" URL makes sense for your computer and location of your pictures.

The one problem with having that iframe thingy in the TiddlyWiki (hey, a rhyme!) : if you click on any link to a picture by mistake, the current web page (i.e. your TiddlyWiki) will navigate to the image.

It might make more sense to have to browser windows open side-by-side.  One browser window with the TiddlyWiki, the other browser window to show the folders and files of family photos, and copy link for image from the one browser, and paste into the browser window with the TiddlyWiki.

Ideally, in the TiddlyWiki, you could press a button (Add photo link?), which would create an image tiddler and present a simple form with an edit text widget for setting the _canonical_uri field of the new image tiddler.  Just paste the copied image URL into that field, and you now have a nice tiddler (with a nice title), maybe even some tags, to view the image right in the TiddlyWiki.
