TiddlyFox stopped working for no obvious reason

For some reason (I didn't upgrade Firefox and didn't install new extensions) TiddlyFox stopped working. It was working just fine until yesterday.
I'm on Firefox 20 (Ubuntu)

I get asked for permission, then, when I want to save I get the dreaded message.

In my compact menu under Menu/Tools it appears like this: TiddlyFox! (including the red color)

I restarted Firefox, rebooted, reinstalled TiddlyFox… nothing seems to work.

Is it possible that TiddlyFox upgraded automatically while starting Firefox? I'm now on 1.0alpha17 dated today.

Could I remove it and install the previous version. If so where do I get that?

Found it.

There seems to be an incompatibility between the Firefox20 - Ubuntu version (They are very slow with official updates) and Tiddlyfox 1.0alpha17;
Removed it and installed (the older version) Tiddlyfox 1.0alpha3. In Add-ons disabled automatic upgrades.

A quick test seems to indicate this solved the problem.

I would still like some thoughts from people who know more about this stuff.

Thanks.

For those who might need it, older versions are here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/tiddlyfox/versions/

Thanks G.J.

Jeremy has posted a new version (TiddlyFox 1.0alpha18 - still testing): https://github.com/TiddlyWiki/TiddlyFox/raw/master/tiddlyfox.xpi

The new version seems to work, but

  • The time stamp of the backup doesn't respect my locale (previous versions did)
  • I have to give permission every time I start using a TW (the previous recent versions didn't)

Hi Andrew

Thanks for updating the thread.

I'm not sure what's going on with the backup timestamps, I'm not aware of anything that's changed in that area.

I'm afraid the second problem is more problematical: the API that I had to drop to enable AMO to approve TiddlyFox again was the API that was used to remember preferences in older versions of Firefox (where the new preferences API is broken for local files). So, the price of inclusion in AMO was to have a much worse user experience for older versions of Firefox, but a much better experience for newer versions. It's all a bit frustrating.

Best wishes

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

The time stamp  thing was my mistake. It always defaulted (I suppose) to GMT. I got confused with the time stamp of Nautilus (Linux file manager). All is as it should be in that department. Sorry for the confusion I created.

My take on this is that this is by no means your fault. Ubuntu should distribute their official upgrades of Firefox faster.

Anyway, thanks for creating this marvelous piece of software which I have been using on a daily basis for over seven years. (You can see why this not-saving business would be irritating.)

Cheers,

Andrew

PS: the same problem surfaced in the French TW-group (https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/tiddlywikifr). I updated them as well.
