Hello,
I have just started using TiddlyDesktop. I would like to install a plugin (e.g. katex), but I do not know how. Every help I get is "drag the link to the browser", which is not applicable. If I drag the link to the application, it does nothing. If I open the my html in a browser and drag the link, it results in Import of "Unknown" or, again, nothing.
Please could someone provide me a detailed description what to do? I do not have much experience so far with TiddlyWiki.

Thanks a lot,
Luisa

Hi Silvie

>  If I open the my html in a browser and drag the link, it results in Import of "Unknown"

That suggests that you may be dragging the wrong link.

The link for installing the KaTeX plugin is at http://tiddlywiki.com/plugins/tiddlywiki/katex/ - the link you want is the text "$:/plugins/tiddlywiki/katex". Drag that link to the TiddlyDesktop window showing your wiki. You should get a $:/Import tiddler displayed. Click the "Import" button and then save and reload your wiki.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

As Jeremy indicates; a link here is what you (and I) probably think of as the tiddler title in lists.

@Jeremy
My guess is that people are trying to drag the url appearing in the browser url field. That's what I did the first times. Maybe we should call it "title link" instead?

The idea of dragging links is probably very odd to most people, it was at least to me. Later, when dragging of tiddlers is implemented as discussed (actually, the title displayed in the tiddler), I think this will be solved and the current method of dragging the links will probably seem like a bonus. ("...drag the tiddler into your TW, or just its title wherever it appears")

<:-)

Hello Jeremy and Mat,
thank you for your responses. Using MSIE I had the feeling that the system behaves in a non-deterministic way. Copying the link (I have the correct link) from Firefox a I was able to see the $:/Import tiddler all the times. However, the plugin to import is called "Untitled". When I press the button "Import", I get a tiddler Untitled with the link as contents: $:/plugins/tiddlywiki/katex. However, when I look at $:/ControlPanel, I do not see Katex in Plugins (I have even tried to "import" the plugin to the tiddly html homepage, where the action (though unsaved) resulted in having Katex in the list of Plugins in ControlPanel.
Moreover, when I click on the link (in the newly created "tiddler" Unknown), I suddenly have Katex Demo instead of my html page opened by nw.exe (the TiddlyDesktop application). And from here there is no way back, unless I close Katex Demo and open my own html page again (but still without working Katex in it).
Please do you have an idea what the step is that I am making wrong? Can't it be due to the fact that I open html by nw.exe?

Thanks a lot again,
Luisa

Where did the file come from that you used for the import?

> Can't it be due to the fact that I open html by nw.exe?

Can you expand what you mean by that? What is the command line you are using to start TiddlyDesktop?

Best wishes

Jeremy

On running: I downloaded and extracted tiddlydesktop-win-0.0.3. So I run nw.exe and then select and open my html file, which was originally the empty.html template (that I took somewhere on the internet).

I will try the same and report back if I shall meet the same problems.

Thinking of TiddlyDesktop... this may provide an excellent opportunity to implement a toolbar / bookmarks bar that facilitates editing / creating / managing content in TiddlyWiki.

Best wishes, Tobias.

Hi Sylvie,

I did a test on win 8.1 with a freshly downloaded TiddlyDesktop 0.0.3 (what's up with that version number? :D)

Here's what I got: It all works.

Some screenshots...

1) Where I got it from via drag-and-drop...

2) import = success

3) the plugin was successfully imported...

4) The one thing I didn't figure out: How do I reload a TiddlyWiki in TiddlyDesktop?!? There is no F5 reloading of the currently displayed wiki, so I have to close and reopen.

Best wishes, Tobias.

Hi Tobias and others,
thank you very much for your help and patience! I discovered the mistake that I was making all the time (except from using MSIE, with which it does not work even now, but never mind - Firefox works).
It was a wrong dragging technique. The correct dragging technique is: to select the link with a mouse, press and hold Ctrl and then drag the link. The link being dragged this way also looks specifically:
I hope this detailed instruction will help at least one beginner in the future. :-)
Thanks again and regards,
Silvie

Giving it another try in ie, I can confirm this. No dropping seems possible form ie(11) to TiddlyDesktop... see mouse pointer.

Best wishes, Tobias.
