Hi all

TiddlyWiki is getting close to full release, and tonight I almost finished my note-taking template called NoteStormTW, the TW5 successor to the old NoteStorm. I have been playing around with a cruder version of this and it has revolutionized my note-taking. Seriously. I think I can finally stop tweaking TiddlyWiki and use this for my purposes until Jeremy finds some reason to break it. Would love your feedback.

The URL  for now while it is in experimental stage is http://giffmex.org/experiments/notestormtw.html

It has two glitches in it that I am aware of, and maybe some of you can help me overcome them:

1. In my StyleSheet I have it so that #gifftoolbar does not print. But it prints anyway. Any idea what I did wrong?

2. When the tagging area is open, editing and saving tiddlers doesn't happen automatically. I need to manually save. Seems to be something to do with the state tiddler being qualified. Again, any ideas on how to overcome that?

Blessings, Dave

Nice work as ever Dave.

In no-sidebar mode, on a wide desktop browser window, the displayed tiddler goes a smidge too wide for the window.  Looks like you've told it to be width 100% but not accounted for the left margin (or maybe not applied box-sizing: border-box), so it's hanging too far off the right by the width of its left margin.

Cheers
;Daniel

Hi Eucaly

I actually started with .gifftoolbar, and switched to #. Neither works.

FYI, I added your Eucaly site to tiddlywiki.com yesterday. Will appear in the new release, due out today or tomorrow. Blessings,

Dave

Hi Daniel, thanks,

This seems to be a glitch that has to do with theme tweaks or something. I have heard others complain about it on their TiddlyWikis. Not sure what to do about it.

This is a problem with zoomin mode in the core (you can see the problem at tiddlywiki.com if you switch to zoomin view and hide the sidebar). It is indeed because the tiddler width is set to 100% which doesn't take into account the margin. I'll go back and look at it again after the next release,

Best wishes

Cool! Always nice to know that something wasn't my fault! :-)

I guess I haven't looked at many zoomin-ed wikis :)

Hi David,

love your template. I use your notestorm from my mobile phone (android).

Now, is it possible to have the image-note-card open the phone's camera, allow the user to take a photo, save it, and insert the image link or filepath between the double quotes and save the tiddler.

This could be widely used for live & self learning (the direction in which the modern pedagogy is moving).

I think there are html5 tags that can call the android APIs etc.

Regards Atul Grover

Hi Atul

I think that would be great! But, as I am not actually a developer but simply a user who shares his own user editions with others, what you are asking for is far beyond my abilities. I recommend you start a separate thread asking if someone knows how to do this.

Blessings!

Hi all

I made some improvements to the NoteStormTW file. Now there is a contents tab, and Instructions is the default, and there is a 'new toc entry tiddler' button in pagecontrols. I also fixed a problem with the subtitle count formulas.

Also, still haven't gotten answers to my original questions regarding the two glitches I am encountering.

Hi Dave, I have not been able to reproduce your error  #2 exactly - when finishing editing a tiddler, with the auto save enabled, the 'saved' popup message is missing but the file is saved (in zoom story  mode ). Is this what you are seeing?

cheers

Hi BJ, thanks for your disposition to help.

Go to the online NoteStormTW. Click on the tag icon in 'Instructions'. Then edit instructions. Then cancel changes. The save button will change colors, because some change has not been saved. The same behavior happens in my local version.

Hi Dave,
I am seeing what I think is the same effect with my 'non-nodejs' wikis - I think that the 'cancel changes' after editing means that there has been no changes (or do you see changes?) but the color control of the save button is confused - i.e. there is a bug in the core

Thanks BJ, once again, I am relieved that my tinkering is not the source of the problem.

Hi everyone,

NotestormTW is now much improved:

1. I have enlarged the icons in the toolbar for easier access and reduced the icons in the instructions for easier reading.

2. I have changed the icons for new entries and new notecards. The normal new tiddler icon is now for new tiddlers/toc entries, and a different 'new notecard' image has been added.

3. The toc is now in a contents tab.

4. Tags and tagging are both accessed by clicking an icon that opens a viewing area for them, like the info window but without the tabs.

5. Instructions are clearer, by explaining the terms tiddler and default tiddler, and directing the user to TiddlyWiki.html for browser-specific issues.

Still under construction: I am wondering how I can force the titlebar div not to display when printing. This improvement would keep the tag area from view when printing. Other than that, I feel like it is now done.

Blessings.

"gifftoolbar" is a CSS class, not an HTML element ID. So your stylesheet should be:

@media print {.gifftoolbar {display: none ! important;}}

Does that work?

Blessings.

Hi Jeremy,

That did indeed do the trick. I am not sure why, though, as I had had it that way earlier. Or maybe I had typed it wrong. At any rate, it is fixed and uploaded.

Thanks, Jeremy!

I am heading out the door, but his afternoon I will be moving it to a different URL and will list it on GitHub as an edition.
