Hi everyone

The previous Stroll thread was getting pretty long. Here is a new one.

Please note that I am dissuading people to integrate TiddlyMap with Stroll. I will no longer entertain questions from people who do. There are too many issues already, and I do not have the time or the expertise to handle them. My apologies. This thread is for bugs or issues with Stroll itself.

Have just added Stroll to my TiddlyWiki, using 1st option (add all) on the "Add Stroll to your TW" tutorial (good job on all those docs, b/t/w!) and found what i believe to be a bug -but could just me doing something wrong.

Problem is: after the install, my out-of-box joy was marred by two missing tiddlers- "Muffin 1" and "Dave Gifford," IIRC -that insisted on appearing in the two-column view by default, even after i closed them, every time i would refresh the wiki.  So i deleted them... But now, i can't recover the two-column view, even though i have the "Show right column for second story" tool ticked in the control panel, that tool now appears to be gone.

So now the Q is: what can i do to get that tool back?  Any help would be most appreciated, i am most keen to enjoy all these powerful new editing functions!

...This thread is for bugs or issues with Stroll itself.

Hi ludwa, thanks for the kind words.

The Muffun 1 and Dave Gifford tiddlers are only part of the tutorial. They are not referenced by any of the tiddlers tagged

$:/giffmex/stroll

So unless you also added the tutorial tiddlers to your TiddlyWiki, they should not have appeared there. It sounds like you may have deleted something else, too.

I think just going back to https://giffmex.org/stroll/stroll.html "Add Stroll to your TW" tab and re-dragging the $:/giffmex/stroll tag pill to your file should solve it.

Thanks Dave: i followed your guidance (was *pretty* sure last time, but this time there is no doubt: i took the correct pill, the one without the tutorial tiddlers) and got the same result:  Muffin 1 and Dave Gifford tiddlers are back again.

Interestingly, i get a different view in Tiddly Desktop: there, i don't see either those two tiddlers, NOR do i see the two-pane editing tool, even though that box- i.e. "show right column for second story" -is ticked in the Tools control panel.
Q: Can it be the case that this tool is not compatible with Tiddly Desktop editor?

(I hope not, because i am for multiple good reasons very attached to Tiddly Desktop... But if i had to switch over to browser to enjoy the two column editing feature, i guess i could live with that. )

Hi ludwa

Thank you for your patience!

I can't speak to TiddlyDesktop, as I don't use it and am really not familiar with its eccentricities.

Muffin 1 and Dave Gifford probably keep reappearing because you have links to them somewhere. Stroll automatically creates missing tiddlers when closing a tiddler with links. Do a search for Muffin (then the same for Dave Gifford) in advanced search (the magnifying glass next to the search box in the sidebar) both in the standard and system tabs, and see what tiddlers come up, and remove the relevant links from those tiddlers.

3 days into my experience with Stroll, and i am *loving* the enhancements to TW5 experience -Backlinks and Renaming automation (to maintain link integrity) especially- but there is one little aspect of my pre-Stroll experience that i'm really missing, and that is the ability to write a WikiWord without having that automatically create a new tiddler.

For me, the WikiWord has been in BS (Before Stroll :-) time my quick shorthand for a term that deserves its own tiddler, whenever i get around to writing it;  in the meantime, it shows up in blue (like a regular link) only with italic formatting added.

Now since adopting Stroll, i have quickly ended up with a bunch of tiddlers that have no content.  The advantage of this is that these wannabe-tiddlers are not just a link buried on some tiddler somewhere; they show up in the "Recent' tag, so i can easily retrieve them, IF i'm diligent before close of each session to retrieve & write something on them (big IF there :-).  What can easily happen -especially if i dash off a fair crop of new tiddlers- these TBD tiddlers are effectively buried, until i stumble across them while Strolling somewhere else.

What i'd *really* like is if at the first invocation of a particular WikiWord that has no corresponding tiddler, that would trigger the adding of it to a list that resides someplace reserved for this particular purpose.  If it is to be a new tiddler, then perhaps that could be tagged as a "Draft" or a "Stub" or some such... Something that would get filtered-out of the "Recent" list, but rather add it to a special list reserved for this special case.

Dunno if that's a UseCase of relevance to anyone else;  wish i had the scripting savvy to be sharing a patch instead of an idea, but alas... That's all i got, for now.

Anyhoo Dave: thanks again for the super upgrade!

Hi Ludwa6

You have three options:

1. Stop wikiwords from being links. In the control panel (open it with the gear icon button in the sidebar, not the gear tab), go to the settings tab, and uncheck the first checkbox. That is not a Stroll thing. tiddlywiki.com has it set that way, too. I left as many things like that as they are with an out of the box TiddlyWiki, even though I myself don't like feature.

2. Stop links from automatically being created. Delete the tiddler $:/.giffmex/ui/EditTemplate. It is a tweak I made so that when closing a tiddler, all missing links get converted to tiddlers. I did this because Roam automatically creates new pages from links, and Stroll is trying to approximate what Roam does.

3. Use the whitelist plugin; http://skplugins.tiddlyspot.com/. I think I had that in TiddlyBlink and left it out of Stroll. It does the behavior you describe.

Have fun!

Wow -so many options!
At this point (as TW5/Stroll n00b), i am reluctant to either load up on new plugins (anyway: that "whitelist" one only does what i can do as well with a ~), much less to set off on a branch of your code-base by deleting any system-level tiddler... So i will work with your option (1) below (How'd i fail to notice that setting, right at the top of the list?  Dooh! :-), and this should fit into my new note-taking workflow just fine.
Thanks again, Dave!

Digging back thru all the Stroll news i missed prior to this thread, i came across mention of this predecessor creation called "Idea Stew," which even has an accompanying video that demonstrated yet another batch of powerful functions that i have yet to discover in Stroll... Yet in that earlier thread about Stroll, i gather that Idea Stew has been abandoned in favor of Stroll, presumably because it delivers all those function and more.  Have i understood this correctly, Dave?

If so, i'd love to know how to access all those power research tools -particularly outlining (as a Dynalist diehard, that's the stuff i miss most here in TW-world), but really that whole menu of Sources/ Topics/ Outline/ Video/ Download/ Links, etc.... I can't find it anywhere in Stroll.  Is there some magic incantation needed to open the Idea Stew pot, i wonder?

You apparently missed https://giffmex.org/stroll/goodies.html. It is mentioned in one of the Stroll tabs.

Have fun!

Indeed i did miss that, Dave -thanks!
But, from that page, i found the "Idea Stew" tiddler under the "TiddlyBlink carry overs" tab, took the yellow pill, followed the accompanying instructions (though i'm not sure what is meant there by "the default tiddler") by creating a new tiddler in my instance called "IdeaStew" , copied in the code snipped given (below)... And now i have a feature on that tiddler that lets me filter by "Sources" (empty in my instance) or "Topics" (which lists all my tiddlers), but the other features -especially "Outline," the one i was most looking forward to- are still missing.  Browsing thru the rest of those goodies on offer at the link you provided, Dave, i still don't find that anywhere.
Do you mind terribly if i impose on you again to point me to it?

Hi Ludwa

There was never a tiddler for listing outlines, even in TiddlyBlink. 'outlines' was just a tag you could add to any tiddler to keep it from appearing in the 'simple transclude' view of the references from other tiddlers. Tiddlers tagged either hide or outline appear in the 'hide' tab. See https://giffmex.org/gifts/tiddlyblink.html, hide tab.

In Idea Stew, the Outlines tab was just a normal tiddler with instructions. It doesn't actually 'do' anything. Just add a tiddler to your file from which to begin a top down manual outline.

Sorry for the confusion, things developed so rapidly this year, and my mind keeps changing about building outlines from the bottom up or from the top down. The goal of the Idea Stew was to meet in the middle. But it is all manually done by linking, there is no magic automatic process.

Hi, is there an option to have new tiddlers appear under the current tiddler instead of appearing on top of the story river ?

Yes, that is a standard setting in TiddlyWiki.
