I am doing some testing with TW5.1.11. I set up a Tiddlyspot account, and setup my local copy of my TiddlyWiki with the correct username and password. But when I make a change, the TW gets autosaved, but the changes do not appear on the website version. The old version of the TW is still on the Tiddlyspot website.

Am I doing something wrong? Isn't this all I have to setup?

This is the error I keep getting when I filled in the account information in my local copy of the TW and clicked Save: "Error:NS_ERROR_DOM_BAD_URI: Access to restricted URI denied."

My local file is named "cr5-perl.html". But the TiddlySpot account is called "cr-perl". Does that difference matter? Because the name stored in my local TW stills says "cr-perl" like it should.

Thank you.

If it is the first time you're attempting to upload to your tiddlyspot you must not use Firefox (due to FF browser restrictions). Use e.g Chrome.

If the above is taken into account, then I instead askyou:

When you go directly to your tiddlyspot url, what is it you see there?

If you make a change there, and save there, and reload - did that change save properly?

An older version from yesterday.

Just now when I make a change to the online version (I'm now at home, I was at work when I had the above problem), and click Save, it asks me to download to a local file too. Am I supposed to open the online version, and change that? Then TW will save it to the local copy automatically?

Because I've been opening the local file, changing that, assuming changes will go to the cr-perl.tiddlyspot.com site.

This is not the correct behaviour. Are you sure you typed in the password? AFAIK, the download only happens if you've not filled in a password (and the tiddlyspot-name)

If the tiddlyspot exists and you, on your local file, are using the correct tiddlyspot name and password, it should upload (with the exception for FF when uploading the very first time).

I don't know what else to say than to try again after making sure you're using corrent tiddlyspot name and password. That, and just try with another browser to see if there's any difference.

Well here's the problem, from the TiddlySpot FAQ:

"NB: For technical reasons, in most browsers, you can no longer upload your local TiddlyWiki file to Tiddlyspot. You need to update your site only while using it online. I realise this has a major impact on Tiddlyspot usefulness."

Hi Chuck

Well here's the problem, from the TiddlySpot FAQ:

To be more specific, a TiddlyWiki hosted on a file:// URI can only directly upload to TiddlySpot under Chrome; Firefox and all other browsers prevent the operation.

Best wishes

Jeremy

Yep, I just tried it in Chrome v49. Firefox, even with TiddlyFox, isn't updating the online version of my TW. Updating my website version of TW only works with Chrome. Ah well. I'll just have to remember that.

@Jeremy

It seems FF have now changed their restrictions. As indicated by Chucks attempts and having now done some experimenting I must conclude that one cannot upload at all from FF to tiddlyspot, i.e even when using TiddlyFox and even when it is not the first upload.

An error message is shown:

Error while saving:

Error:NS_ERROR_DOM_BAD_URI: Access to restricted URI denied

...but there is a fallback so the file saves locally. I must assume this is by design but it was news to me.

I think that’s the same as what I said :)

TiddlyFox has absolutely nothing to do with saving to TiddlySpot.

To be clear, one cannot upload to TiddlySpot with Firefox from a TiddlyWiki loaded via a file:// URI.

Once the wiki is saved in TiddlySpot it can be used normally in Firefox.

Best wishes

Jeremy.
