I have been using TiddlyWicki since 2008. As of tonight it will not save. Not manually, not autosave. I installed the Firefox extension. I have Windows7. I haven't changed anything on the computer. As usual I have "autosave" checked in the Options box and my username entered for signing. But the "saved" message does not come up either manually or autosave. To prove it is not saving, it won't let me leave the page. Can anyone help me?

Addendum to my previou spost:

I am also getting the following message when I attempt to import or export:
netscape securityprivelige manager is undefined
also, I am using XP not windows 7

Still me here...I just want to make clear. Everything was working on Dec 4. If  Ihit "save changes" absolutely nothing happens. Also auto save now does not save. The time stamp on the file is stilL Dec 4. If anyone can tell me what to do that would be helpful.

Hi Manny

Do you know which version of Firefox you are using? Although you mentioned that you hadn't changed anything on your computer, Firefox has a habit of automatically updating itself the latest version without intervention on your part, which may well be the cause of these problems.

Also, can you try downloading a fresh copy of TiddlyWiki from tiddlywiki.com and seeing if you can save changes with it?

Many thanks

Jeremy

Thank you so much for your input. I love TiddlyWicki and it is a part of my life. I have been attempting to follow the directions you so kindly sent, and have made partial progress.

1. Firefox version is 19.0.1

2. I was able to download a new empty TiddlyWiki file. There also seems to be a second program extracted, called TiddlySaver. I was successfully able to  save changes  in the new, downloaded file
.
3. In spite of the existence of both TiddlySave and the TidddlyFox extension which I installed in Firefox, I am unable to save any changes in my (old) existing file. Also, when I tried to import data to the new file I received  the message "Security privledigme managers undefined".

If there is a way to import my data that would be great. I would like to continue to use Tiddlywiki if at all possible. I am not a Java programmer but attempted the modification of the Firefox Profiles file that I found somewhere online. As far as I know, that code  did not save permanently, and did not help, but perhaps I am doing something wrong.

this seems to be an alpha version, where it is quit common, that
things break. Latest stable is 17.0...
You can have a look at the FF alpha mailing lists, if they did add
"more security" (issues) ...

FYI I am having the same problems with Firefox 17.0.1 on Linux/Ubuntu 12.04

I cannot save my existing tiddlywiki or even a newly downloaded one.

I can still save with Firefox 16.0.2 on Linux/Ubuntu 12.04 so I suspect something changed with FF upgrade...

Hi Manny

Apologies for the delay.

Can you try the latest beta of TiddlyWiki?

1. Download the new empty.html from http://tiddlywiki.com/beta/empty.html
2. Put it in the same folder as the TiddlyWiki file from which you wish to import your old content
3. Open the 2.7 empty.html file in Firefox
4. Open your old TiddlyWiki file in a separate tab
5. TiddlyFox should pop up it's message about enabling file saving. Click "OK"
6. Open the backstage area if necessary, and click "import"
7. Copy the URL of your old TiddlyWiki file from the address bar in Firefox (it should start file://) and paste it into the 2.7 TiddlyWiki import dialogue in the box marked "Enter the URL or pathname here"
8. Click the "open" button

You should now be able to import your old content, and save it in the usual way.

Let me know how you get on,

Best wishes

Jeremy

Jeremy

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it immensely.

WhenI click the download link that you sent me the initial page of Tiddlywiki appears, but there is no "new tiddler" command nor is there any way to open "backstage". Also it does not appear in the downloads menu  of Firefox so I do not know where it is being saved.  Interestingly I can open AND SAVE (new tiddlers) within my old Tiddlywiki in Chrome. I also have a recent download (a few days old) in the same folder but IMPORT of my data does not work.

Sorry this is so confusing. The short version:

1. Ancient Tiddlywiki with all my data works and saves new data in Chrome (it asks to approve the file saving add on).
2. No new version of Tiddlywiki has yet allowed me to import

Sorry for all the trouble.
Manny

Manny I think you need to right click that link and save it to your hard drive. If you just click the link it opens the tiddlywiki on the tiddliwiki server - thats why you cannot find where it is downloaded as it has not been downloaded

I followed Jeremy's instructions (I also had to right click and save) and place the files in the same directory. Then it imported all the tiddlers from my ancient version 1.x tiddlywikki. I now have everything working almost perfectly in the lates and greatest version of tiddlywiki. I was very happy as the tiddlywiki had data in it from way back 2008 or so.

Thanks to Jeremy and I hope my advice helps you move forward.

Ok I tried it. Both the old and new("empty"), downloaded Tiddlywiki are in the My Documents folder.  When I attempt to import (after copying the link  of my old Tiddlywikiin the import dialogue)  I get the message: "Error retrieving tiddlers from local file, please make sure the file is in the same directory as your TiddlyWiki. Click Cancel to try again."..   This happens both in Chrome and Firefox. I should add that the add-on (to save files) appears only in Chrome. Anyway, I am not able to make the fix work  in either browser. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Finally I'm able to resolve the problem. :-)

I installed TiddlyFox extension. My old TW is working now after installing this extension.

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm facing exactly the same problem like Manny. I followed all the 8 steps as suggested Jeremy. But the import failed with this message: Error retrieving tiddlers from local file, please make sure the file is in the same directory as your TiddlyWiki. Click Cancel to try again.

My version of Firefox is: 17.0.1.

Thanks.
