Finicky Question #1

Why is the DEFAULT ControlPanel > Settings > Navigation Address Bar

Set to:

Do not update the address bar

Rather than: 

Include the target tiddler

Why am I asking?

Well, when you visit a lot of other's people's TiddlyWiki's its a PITA to have to 9 out of 10 cases have to change this setting manually to be able to quickly copy the address of a Tiddler to quote elsewhere.

I can't see the reason for the Default as its currently set. And I believe its like that ONLY because most users never thought to change it.

But its much better to get precise addressing in the Address Bar, unless there are overwhelming reasons not to.

There’s a much easier workflow: use the “permalink” button in the tiddler toolbar (usually under “more”), and then cmd/ctrl-L to get the focus on the browser address bar, and then cmd/ctrl-C to copy the URL. Or if you want to get the URLs of multiple tiddlers, use the “permaview” option in the page controls toolbar.

Because of community request. ... If you search this list, you'll find several threads, that caused the default settings as they are today.

I did try look up what the history was before posting. I did feel there must be a reason why the default is set that way even though its counter normative.

But Google Groups is absolutely useless for anything but the crudest kind of search, so I gave up on that.

Thank you for telling me there was a choice made at some point for the Default we now have.

I'm still not quite convinced its the best way. But its okay. Its only a setting.

I couldn't find the discussions either ... but I did find the github issue that caused the config options: https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/issues/600

One reason also was, that changing the URL bar, also adds to the browser history. ... See the discussion at the issue.

If the URL reflects the story list, it creates very long urls. So new users got confused. ... So we changed it back to the default setting, with the "least surprise factor".
