Since I can't update my (old) wiki in Firefox 18; and the TiddlyFox
add-on did not solve the problem, I decided I must have to update my
Tiddly version? Is that a given?

I installed Firefox 16 (separate path). Opened the new empty.html
(2.6.6) file, clicked on "importTiddlers", browsed to my old
TiddlyWiki but got the following error.
Error: A script from "file://" was denied UniversalFileRead
privileges.

Help!

Thanks Will
Got it working now.

Had some trouble getting it to import my old 2.2.5 file. Was getting an error even though both files were in the same folder. Can't recall my exact steps but was swapping between Firefox 16 & 18, and disabling/enabling TiddlyFox.

I am now using 2.7 beta 2, with TiddlyFox add-on.
Is updating fine.

Regards,
Ross

Ross,

Only last week I encountered the same problem, with an older but very large Wiki I was unwilling to lose.
Turns out downgrading Firefox isn't the answer!

In Firefox 17 -
Download the beta of version 2.7 of Tiddlywiki (not Tiddlywiki5 though!)
Import your TiddlyWiki file into the beta version.
Now you have your TiddlyWiki accessible - but you still cant save it- as that part of 2.7 isn't working yet!
So now you "upgrade" TiddlyWiki to version 2.6.2 and everything works!

You will get an error message saying is it inadvisable to downgrade to an earlier version of Tiddlywiki - but it is safe to ignore he warning.

Here's hoping this works for you like it did for me!
