Does anyone here use TiddlyWiki on a Chromebook?

A friend with a Chromebook wants to experiment with TiddlyWiki, and so I'd be interested in any feedback on the best of the available options. They'd like to keep a private notes file in Dropbox or Google Drive. Ordinarily, I'd recommend TiddlyDesktop and/or Quine, but they obviously don't work in this case.

Many thanks,

Jeremy

I’ve been using TiddlyDrive.  https://tiddlywiki.com/#TiddlyDrive%20Add-on%20for%20Google%20Drive%20by%20Joshua%20Stubbs It seems to work well, but you have to to give it access to your Google Drive.  It should work on a Chromebook.

Newer chromebooks are supposed to be able to use Android apps, so might be able to use Tiddloid/Quinoid to connect to GDrive.

G'day Jeremy,

I'm happiest using TiddlyDrive with my Chromebook.  I would use TiddlyDesktop if I did not have reliable internet access.

My Chromebook has enough oomph to handle Linux (BETA) quite well, so TiddlyDesktop works A-1.  Just a pain to setup TiddlyDesktop in Linux, and my Chromebook isn't quite as zippy when all of the Linux "infrastructure" gets turned on by running any Linux app.

If your friend has a Chromebook with ability to turn on Linux (BETA), it does work well if your friend doesn't mind futzing with Linux (and setting up a launcher icon to lauch TiddlyWiki from the Chrome shelf.)

I am no fan of Android apps on my Chromebook, nor a fan of how my Chromebook behaves when Google Play store is turned on.  I haven't tried anything Android on my Chromebook for a while, so maybe I'd have fewer complaints today.  Then again: I like Android on my phone, but not on my laptop.

Ciao Jeremy,

Late to the party but Chromebooks are good.

I got a Lenevo dual recently (it can be used as a pure tablet, OR  with a keyboard with touchpad). I will add a pen later.

They good for TW since it is browser based and browsers work off the shelf as simple on Android as anywhere else.

In terms of application, why I need it, FYI, I'll be using TW in  a browser on it in kiosk mode (hiding most of the browser interface) for a project for neurological experiments (human adaptation to visual inversion) for the University of Udine.

Advantages: A major one is COST. They are priced in a range where its  possible to equip more than one user.-

Just saying

 Certainly they can.

Ciao Mark

UPDATE: In order to install Tiddloid or Quinoid on my Lenevo Chromebook (recent model) it requires that you activate "Developer Mode".
That will wipe your disk and reset the whole machine.
So you'd have to reinstall everything afresh.

Too much work for me, I'm lazy! :-)

WHY is this happening? Because both apps. are NOT in the Google PlayStore.

Just saying,

Jeremy

UPDATE: On my (recent model) Lenevo Chromebook I am thinking of activating Linux which it will natively support and auto-install.

WHY? So I could install TiddlyDesktop.

Best wishes

I've got TiddlyDesktop for Linux installed on my Chromebook, but I much prefer keeping my TiddlyWiki's on Google Drive, accessed with TiddlyDrive.

As-is, I only keep TiddlyDesktop around in case my internet goes down and I really need to do TiddlyWiki things.

Just my own preference after playing around with it all.

I live in Chrome OS, and only ever go to the Linux VM when I really need it for a select few applications (Hex-a-Hop, gPlanarity, SpiderBasic, Treesheets, VYM, and DB Browser for Sqlite being my occasional guilty pleasures).

Ha! Interesting. Google Drive I use too. Being cloud based, accessed through the browser, it is neat in that you can have it going on different machines.
It is, in some ways, quite easy to set-up saving to from TW. That is a big portable near universal plus.

My 2 cents

One of the more interesting things about Chrome is the somewhat silent auto-support to dongles.

It is easy to interface with USB sticks. And more interestingly HDMI monitors.

On my Lenevo (recent) Chromebook both USB saving and HDMI (just a TV) monitor work out of the Dongle ...

Best wishes
